RE: Secure transaction in iFrame

It works and looks much better as an embedded iFrame…I wonder what else I could do to maintain the look and feel…link to new window…what else, anything?

Some browsers won’t allow this sort of mixed-mode, or at least will
flag it as a potential attempt at confusing the visitor. But you are
correct that if the secure stuff all happens within the iframe, and
never targets anything outside of its iframe, then there’s actually
no way for the browser or the server to tell the difference between
that and loading the content of the iframe into a new browser window.

But perception is, as you say, where the problem lies, and I don’t
know if the browser will signal (with its little lock icon) that the
page is secure if it’s actually looking at the outer page.

I think the security of the transaction (credit card submission

my savvy customers feel comfortable when they don’t see the https

security doesn’t carry through the iFrame?

Hi Bill

When I try this with FF 3.0.3 it doesn’t open in an iFrame but in a new window at the shutterfly site.

Hi David,

Yes, I changed out of an iFrame with a new window to the Shutterfly
site. Thought it was better for customers to know they were on a
secure web page when purchasing and couldn’t do that from an iFrame.

If I could, I would because it looked so much better embedded on my
web page.

Hi Bill,
As far as I see it there area couple of things you could do to make things a
little better. Firstly you may want to insert a block of text that assures the
user that the shopping cart is secure and offer them the option of opening the
cart in it’s own window. Something like;
“Here at MyStore.com we use Shutterfly (link) as a store front end to sell our
work. Shutterfly is a secure trading partner of MyStore.com and offers
encryption of your data throughout the purchase process. If your browser fails
to verify that the cart is secure please open up the cart in a new window
(link).”
Or something like that.
The other thing that occurs to me is that you could set up your own certificate
for your purchase pages. Although not an instant process it would offer a
secure connection for these pages and should also comfort any concerns from
your buyers.
Regards,
Tim.

Thanks Tim. I moved away from the iFrame for the moment until I can figure out what works best. On the one hand, I don’t want to create the illusion that the transaction isn’t secure but REALLY prefer the look of the gallery embedded in my freeway site pages with the iFrame, really looks much better.

I’ll check out the idea of the certificate to see how that works and what it gives me. I also appreciate the suggested wording, I may use that if ok with you?

Hi Bill,
Sure. I think you may want to clean the text up a bit as I think it’s a bit
clunky at the moment! Just my 2c.
Thanks,
Tim.
