Reassignment of Site Folder

Another one of those tear your hair out for 45 minutes on the most basic thing, then give up and ask the forum:

I created a template project. I duplicated the project, renamed all the folders, launched it, updated the upload locations and then customized the site.

I see that in the site pane, the name and location of the original site folder are unchanged. Unlike other apps, I can’t simply point at a different site folder.

What is the solution for this seemingly simple problem?

I am not sure i understand your issue here, to the best of my knowledge i didn’t think you could change the Site Folder name in the Site Pane.

If you are talking about changing the location of the Site folder, then this is done in the File>Document Setup>Document dialogue. Roughly in the middle of the Dialogue you have the option to select the location of the Site Folder…

Is this your issue???

Thanks for your response, John.

As I figured things out, you can’t simply create a Freeway document and related site folder, then just dupe it and rename it, as with Dreamweaver and other apps. Instead, you have to export the template site literally as a template and then created the new site from the template.

Frankly, it would be so much easier if the document setup could include a field for specifying a working site and not just upload site destinations. That way, you could simply dupe a folder, change the working site name and then revise the contents as needed, without fear of wrecking the original working site.

The easiest way is to take the original FW file, do a Save As (into a new project folder) and then - before anything else - specify a new Site folder (within your new project folder) and new upload details.

Another way is to use Save Archive, this creates a folder of your choice with all resource and Media files included.

Then all you need to do is to rename the .freeway file in your new folder.
