Recommendations for Storing Usernames & Passwords

Quark? That’s a bit of a pen and paper approach, but if it works…

I would use Filemaker myself.

Not sure when it changed, but whereas FM9 encrypts data if you
password it, FM6 just sets a ‘please don’t reveal this without a
password’ flag. You can extract a lot of the contents of a passworded
FM6 from the command line, just you cant be sure which relates to
what. FM9 encrypts it.

I do use FM6 for passwords, but keep the file on an encrypted disc image.

Hi Paul,

I think I know what you mean. Sometimes, if I don’t disconnect from a
server before closing the lid and going to another network, QS will
hang when I first attempt to use it. I’ll then get a, “You are no
longer connected to the following servers” dialog with a disconnect
button. Once you disconnect from the/all the servers then everything
starts working.

I must say I haven’t noticed it recently though.

Joe, on a slightly different note: I started using QuickSilver last
year, and absolutely loved it; I got so I could hardly work without
it!

Then I noticed that after a period ranging from one to three days,
my Finder would ‘freeze’. I couldn’t drag icons on the Desktop,
although the contextual menus worked fine, and I could send them to
the Trash using the keyboard shortcuts; just couldn’t drag them
around. Force-quitting the Finder fixed it, but it stopped me using
QuickSilver. I traced the problem to QuickSilver by a process of
elimination.

Did you ever come across this and, if you did, do you know a
solution? I’m running Leopard now, although I was running Tiger
then. Perhaps I’ll give it another go …

best wishes,

Thanks for the feedback Joe. I rarely connect to other servers, so I
don’t think it was that in my case. I’ve downloaded a fresh copy, and
am tryintg it again. Actually, since going to Leopard, I’ve had these
Finder ‘freezes’ without running QuickSilver, so I figure if I
occassionally have to restart the Finder, I might as well be getting
the QuickSilver goodenss anyway …

Could be spotlight, that can be a pain when indexing.

I use Soho Notes. It started as Sticky Brain and now has become Soho Notes. Backups everytime it starts and I’ve got everything in there. From passwords to serial numbers to quotes to tips to credit cards to notes.

works great for me.

Without a doubt 1Password is the absolute best.

You can also sync many machines to the same password master file. Just check out the demo - it’s totally awesome! (ps I am not actually from the valley)

Agreed. But if you need another option I have been using Info.xhead before 1Password and it found it excellent.

I use 1password too (couldn’t live without it now) and am not affiliated with AgileWebSolutions

But I recently found out about AllSecure from EdgeRift.

It came free with MacHeist 3 mission 1, so you can get a free license by going here:-

AllSecure - interesting but the reviews say its not up to 1Password. Incidentally you can use 1Password on iphone / ipod touch
