ReduceSize of SWF File

I’ve made a SWF file from InDesign to use online. The file made is enormous. With some quality reduction we got it DOWN to 6mb.

Is there an app (preferably free) that can reduce SWF files? I have Flash, but when I bring in the SWF file, there doesn’t seem to be much I can do with it. I don’t have a native Flash file to work with.

Thanks.

Bob

This is a problem with InDesign (are you using CS5?).

I have posted the same question on the adobe forums as I wanted to created banner ads in ID, but because the ffile sizes are so bit, it isn’t possible. At the moment, I was told to wait for IE6… not that helpful.

Is this anything to do with original images imported to InDesign or
are all graphics generated inside InDesign? If you have some large
images, photos etc make sure they are reduced down to their correct
size and dont let Indesign do it for you or it may just use the
original large images. Just an idea but the same principle works in
flash

What is the nature of the file you are exporting? is it a slide show / web banner / brochure?

Hi Nathan,
I’ve tried this tool in the past and it seems to do quite well
although I will admit that I didn’t spend too much time tweaking the
compression settings;

Regards,
Tim.

Ooh that looks good and worth a try. I was getting small banners down to around 150-200k, when they need to be 30k, so maybe this will squeeze them down that last little bit.

Thanks.

Well, I think I’m just trying to do the impossible, but the original InDesign file is a print file. The client wants to make a page flip online book, which I can do from InDesign, but the file is huge.

PDFs can’t do the page flip thing, only SWF files.

Short of reducing all the images in the file to 72 dpi RGB (which is most likely not worth the time) I think I’m out of luck.

It might be worth having a look at the link Tim sent over - I think there’s a trial on there.

I downloaded the trial, used a slightly altered default setting and it was still optimizing when I finally had o kill it. And it was only saving 2mb out of my 6.

So, I don;t think it’s meant to handle files that big, perhaps.
