There might already be a thread on this subject but I was wondering what the easiest way would be to force people to register their details before being allowed to download files from a website?
Create a form, with ‘compulsory’ fields. Then put the download link on the re-direct ‘success’ page

So simple - can’t believe I didn’t think of it. I even found a script that only allows access to my downloads page via a specified url (ie. my registration page). Thanks!
Of course this doesn’t validate that anything entered is actually legitimate apart from being a certain kind of entry.
But it probably mostly suffices.

Any kind or registration can be faked, in all or part. But I’m thing of trying to keep things simple. The next stage up is to get the form to email the hyper-link to the download page. At least then you can record a correct email address.
If you’re not into coding (trying to keep thing simple again) then just set your email client to ‘auto respond’ to reply to the incoming email to reply with the download URL - hopefully you’ve at least captured their email.
