relative spacing of objects

I’m looking for a way to accurately distribute a row of objects on a relative page layout. Percent doesn’t work well.
Thanks in advance.

Percent doesn’t work well.

Can you show us an example?

I don’t have anything up at present. I need to put a row of thumbnail images in a HTML object. The HTML object is set to stretch to fit a percentage of the width of the layout and I need the thumbnails to automatically adjust their spacing as the user resizes their browser window.

I can set each thumbnail to a relative position by percentage, but this is unreliable as the spacing becomes uneven when the width of the HTML object decreases.

Are all the thumbs the same dimensions?

You really need to get it online so that we can see it.

… did some testings.

Depends on construction and preferably padding rather than margin.

Too complex for me. I was hoping for a solution using the tools within Freeway.

The items are uniform in size.

I could do it in a couple of clicks with Hype but as the objects will be used as buttons I’d prefer to handle the links within Freeway.

Thanks

My example is simply using Freeway’s tools - nothing else.

Thanks.

All I saw was the code and the result. Other than editing the code (e.g., tweaking @media query) I didn’t see a how-to.

By pasting the objects inline into a container would be okay but I didn’t see a way to set automatic spacing.

Part of my business plan (sharing just to proof “if Freeway can”).

Not part of my business-plan (am not the SA).

Those mates are called Padding or/and Margin (depending on construction claims) and are part of the inspector.

Thanks. Not interested. I suggest that you consider mentioning a business solicitation at the start.

What I came up with was placing a set of boxes within an HTML object, giving each a percentage width and manually aligning them horizontally. I pasted the thumbnail objects into the boxes inline and center justified. By specifying L and R distances I got what I was looking for. Not elegant, but it works.

Uncalled for.

Never did and never will.

Just mentioned that it took me a week for research and 2,5 hours to build. So what’s your quote for this and I’d ship it for the half.

The padding and margin in this situation only accepts specific pixels.

I don’t know that the uncalled for comment is appropriate.

I don’t have any problem whatsoever with a person being paid for their time. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. In such a circumstance, it is appropriate to start off by saying that they can offer a solution as a paid service, in which case everything is on the up and up.

My suggestion that a paid service be mentioned at the start is proper. In close to five years years on Freeway forums (and years as sysop on an Adobe forum), this is the first time I’ve encountered a commercially-oriented post that did not mention the commercial nature in the post.

Trey I think you are missing Thomas’s point.

He clearly states “Part of my business plan (sharing just to proof “if Freeway can”).”

Now I would translate that as “It is my Mission to show/prove that it can be done in FW”

Business doesn’t really come into it!

His other line “Not part of my business-plan (am not the SA).”

Really means that while he is happy to show it can be done in FW it is not part of the Mission to document the method in its entirety.

I am sure he will jump in if I have misinterpreted.

That’s what I heard too. There’s showing the way, and then there is doing
the work. The amount of information - and I would say “inspiration” - given
away on FWT is enormous. But it’s still amazing to me how easily users
exceed FWP’s basic abilities… I remember when that happened to me and I had
to ditch the whole “I don’t want to learn anything complicated” mantra.
Others showed me the way, but the journey was still mine to undertake.

… and even more, I already documented the key to do which is a bit more than just pasting some HTML items into a container.

My beautiful attractive members of the “Lounge” would kick my ass if I share the magic stuff for free, while I take money from them - this is my business plan.

All those are under my personal support - they can mail me whenever and get stuff whatever - and I had never complaints.

Back to the business:

All “inspector’s values” can be extended or overwritten by selecting the item and item → extended dialogue. Once there, head to the DIV-Style Tab and add in the name/value dialogue the desired stuff such as:

padding-left (name) : 2% (value)

I agree that this requires another week of research but worth to do - especially if it is making one smarter - in order to strengthen a community.
