Reliable Downloading Source For Older Browers

Hi All,

I’m putting together my testing environment using Parallels on my Mac. I’m trying to find a reliable source to download 1 or 2 versions back of browsers. There are many sites that offer free downloads, but I’m not sure if it is safe. Does anyone have any experience with a good source?

Needed Browsers:

  • Google 9
  • Google 8
  • Firefox 2

Thank you for your help,

Christian

I dont think that I would bother too much about FF2 - FF3 has been about for nearly 3 years and FF users are much more likely to upgrade than IE users. Mozilla Firefox Browser

Similarly Chrome 8 - figures suggest that the vast majority of Chrome users are on 9 and up. Google Chrome Browser

Dave brings up an interesting point. I wonder how many people really
are using older versions of browsers (and other software). I suspect a
lot more than it might seem. Computer and website-design-related forums
are populated by digital enthusiasts, and therefor are prone to upgrade
to relatively new browsers. All of the discussions center around the
latest developments, so it would be easy to assume everyone is doing
the same. But then, the larger population probably doesn’t have as much
of an interest in the latest computer stuff, and may use older browsers
for a long time. Who’s to know?

Even some of us “forum types” consciously choose to stick with older
versions of software. I’m happily using FW Pro 3.5, Firefox 2, Camino
1.6.11 and Mac OS 10.3.9 – all on a Pismo laptop. Oldies, but goodies!

May be Richard but the page the first link goes to suggests that FF2 usage was at 1.2% in December 2009! 15 months ago.

Is that worth modifying your code for? I think not.
