Not really good for SEO these days. I want to create many image folders with key phrase words. I do this with other software I work with and those sites place well. But I love Freeway, working with it for over 10 years. Does anyone have a work around for the names of image folders as they will appear on the server. I really did read through some threads. I know Resources is what Freeway wants, but it doesn’t mean anything to the search engines.
I dont think that a file name’s path has any SEO relevance
When I say that I am talking about paths to images rather than URLs to pages.
Far more important for images is that image file names should be descriptive and informative and that you provide Alt text - not just for SEO but for the visually impaired, screenreaders etc.
Thank you Dave. I agree the path has no relevance. My SEO practices are quite successful except for Freeway sites as FW likes to strip things like page titles and image names and restricts the naming of the resource folder. I received a really good suggestion for controlling image names. I expect the resource folder name is a dead issue, but thought after 10 years there would be alternatives.

It is relative easy to keep on top of FW and override its automatic page naming (and image names for that matter) and as you have agreed the naming of the Resource folder is irrelevant because it only comes into image paths and not page URLs
Thanks for the follow up. You’re a doll. My only other test to try was using pass-thru graphic, but haven’t tried it yet. We all love actions. All the best for this new year.
It sort of works and uses AppleScript to change the folder name(s) before Freeway has a chance to write any of the page code. Because it does the renaming so early in the publishing cycle Freeway dutifully not only places the resource files in this new folder but also creates links to the page resources as if it were the original folder.
As long as you don’t have multiple Rename Resources Actions in your site you should be fairly safe using the Action.
Personally I don’t know how much search engines would take the resources folder name into account when ranking your site against a keyword but I guess it can’t hurt to try.

Tim.
