reviews please

Good Afternoon.

Thank you for all of your help. You guys rock!

Laura,

You also inspired me to re inspect mine after seeing your wonderful site. Great Job!!

I have done my site over - my logo over - and made a blog like insert that Walt recommended.

I am ready to hear all.

http://www.grassrootsweb.net

Thank you

Julie

Hi Julie

Just had a quick look and the only problem, if it is one, are your two links to ‘get a free quote’ on you Web Design page.

There’s no link??

As I said , just had a quick look.

very nice site
i think the logotype is a cool idea
but
i had trouble reading it
it’s very busy
there’s so much green it just threw me
could you outline the letters in like an earthy brown ?
that would make them pop
or …even a darker green to give a better outline of the letters ?
looks very good otherwise
did you make that background ?

Julie, what font is that? I’ll take a stab in that it’s Dakota?

Also you may want to consider redoing the logo part. Perhaps you could have the letters be a solid color and then some illustrated grass underneath that. It really is hard to read and since it’s more of a company site you want to make sure people can read what your company name is.

Dan,
For the menu yes. I used the caxon action.

Is there another font that might look better for the name/logo with
the grass in it? Or whAt if I change it’s outline to brown like
suggested?

I did notce some one did the form…thank you! On the quote page. I am
seeing one problem: it’s not requiring any infozz so it is all
blank… How can correct this?

Thank you all for this positive and helpul feedback!

I like that you guys look and say all

Hi, Julie: I’m by far no expert and don’t feel terribly qualified to critique anyone else’s work. In fact, I kind of held my breath when I asked for reviews of my own site. But I appreciate your response to my site remake, so in the spirit of sharing from those hugely qualified to those less qualified, here are my own thoughts:

(1) I’m jealous that you can manage to keep your text to the point. I’m not sure I can ever do that.

(2) I like that whole tan paper-like thing you have going for the browser body. Nice, very nice.

(3) Great consistency throughout. I have a tendency to stray from that.

(4) I suppose if I had any suggestions to offer, it would be to somehow declutter the logo. In my mind, you might’ve tried just a little too hard to make the logo embrace the grassroots feel, but in doing so inadvertently made it more difficult to read than necessary. Guess I’d go for something just a little more simple.

Generally, though, wow – nice. I wish I had your Photoshop skills.

Laura,

THank you so much…

I love your text (but being a writer - you have a nack to capture attention) - I am always fearful that too little is not good for google searches - but when I ramble I ramble
THank you!!

I love the frog - as Dan J said - it makes you want to explore more.

Logo - I understand - so what I did listening to you and Ian - is change the font and highlight around the letters in a earthy brown. IS this better

The final “goal” logo is not jsut the grass inside but sticking out by using the pen tool. I am trying to learn this skill in PSD - slow going so what you see is the temp version.

Thank you!! as I to you - your writing skills. IF you ever need something - do not heasitate to ask.

And BTW I hold my breath too waiting. I love hearing both the positive and negative - that is how I learn

to my mind

this is a big improvement

first looks mean a lot, and when i first looked at the website, i could see “grassroots web” right away

i get that you are trying to have blades of grass grow out of the logo which if done right would be very cool but also hard to implement i think w/o losing the logo

if you really want an honest appraisal from a guy who can’t draw at all

i would make the outline of the logo even a shade darker brown and then
make the grass on the inside slightly less transparent (or is that more ? …anyway toned down a bit …bit still obviously grass)
and then have 2 or 3 or 4 tufts of grass here and there growing right over parts of the logo to give the point of grass growing

but hey

i like it and seeing the edges slightly darker makes a big difference, it is readable on first glance which i think is what you want

My 2c

Background graphic still too large at 340K

Move the header/logo up the page by a fraction - do you have more than one index page? On arriving at grassrootsweb.net and then clicking the Welcome link - index.html - the whole page moves down a bit.

I would use an email address for contact that refers to your site ie julie(at)grassrootsweb.net - I think it gives a more professional feel.

I also still think that you need more relevant text on your pages to help your SE ratings.

The logo works a lot better for me, Julie. But you might still consider dropping that butterfly off the second “o” or figuring a way to reposition it. As it is, It’s kind of hard to distinguish. Ian’s idea of boosting the outline color likely could make the whole thing pop off the page better, too.

I think you’re on a great roll with this, no matter what.

I agree w the words I am trying to write that now without being rambly

Thank you

Hi Julie

I’ve looked at you site in Safari, FF, Chrome and Opera and I cannot see the problem with your .net & index.html page moving.

What I have noticed is that on your Logo Creation page & Twitter Backgrounds page when I click on a logo or background, they open in the lower right hand quarter of my screen. Also on the same two pages, they seem to be twice/ three times the length of the other pages on the site.

On ‘Request A Quote’ page if you exspand the ‘Details of Project you are looking at’ box to the right, the rest of the form moves to the left.

Overall, its a good looking site. I agree with LauraB, your on a roll.

That GR Wellness logo is huge! Well over half a Meg

grlogo1.jpg
Dimensions 505 × 576
File size 655.36K

Did you do something with the index page because it has stopped repositioning/jumping?

As to the form - I would add another empty column between the existing (for padding) and increase the width of the RH column also increasing the width of the entry fields so that they are all about the same width as your biggest - the Health/Wellness Facility dropdown.

There is also no reason you cannot use the same form for both Contact and Request a Quote with some slight alts.

Just remember that an input item should be as wide as the information that is likely to go in it so that the viewer can see if they have done it right!

Try typing Arnold Schwarzenegger into your name box - does it all fit?

And while I am being picky!

Physician, Office Manager, Business Administrator, Marketing Group, Human Resources - are NOT Titles. They are positions.

Titles would be Mr, Mrs, Dr, Professor etc.
