Rollover question

I posted this in Dynamo and got no response. Maybe this is better.
If I want to create a rollover on say a necklace but don’t want the whole space to be activated, just the object. I’m using the path tool from the map area but it creates the entire space instead of JUST the shape. Even when I don’t join the line it creates a large box that incorporates the entire shape instead of just the line around the piece. I have other stuff inside the necklace that I will want to create a separate link but it won’t let me. Any help? Thanks

The shape you drew is over a graphic item, or an html item? After you drew your shape, did you have the shape selected before applying the link to it?

Take a look starting at page 147 in the Freeway 5 Reference Manual. Pretty straight forward.

I must not be making myself very clear here. The image map I’m trying to create is a graphic with many various shapes and sizes within it. I want to be able to have one not be affected by another.
Let’s take the illustration on page 147. Take the map area path tool and draw around the side and bottom of the large shape and don’t connect the ends. Freeway by default takes the points on that line and creates a box that is LARGER than what I want to click on. I only want THE LINE, not the entire shape in order to be able to assign a hyperlink to it and to other items within my line.
A good illustration can be seen on this site’s main graphic:

Rollover the necklace and you’ll see that once you pass across it the hand goes back to the pointer.

I only want to rollover the line (or path), not to make the entire shape active which is what Freeway is giving me. I know there is a simple answer for this.

Hi Ed,
Unfortunately image maps need to be enclosed spaces and cannot simply be lines.
If you look at the necklace page you mention with Internet Explorer you can see
the browser highlight the image map areas as you tab through the page links.
Here’s a screen shot showing one of the image map areas for that image;
http://www.plumb.org.uk/test/imagemap.png
You’ll see that the area is quite crudely defined but works well in defining the
area for the link and tooltip. You’ll also notice that the area is a ‘C shape’
rather than an O because you cannot punch holes in areas.
My advice is to zoom in on the image and use Freeway’s tools to draw a bounding
area close to the image edge that is a couple of pixels wide at least. Any less
than this and most users will simply scroll right over it without noticing the
link.
All the best,
Tim.

Thanks Tim!
This will be a lot more work but at least I have the answer.
Another quirky thing that is now happening is that once I create a shape it quickly jumps to another part of the graphic and won’t let me drag it back into place. If I drag it down it goes up. If I drag it to the right it will only go so far and no more. It also re sizes itself small. I find I have no control over these shapes and I will need to be pretty precise.
Whaaasup??!

And another thing…

With regard to http://www.freewayactions.com
I have Express 5 and for some reason the action updater AppleScript droplet is only for versions 3 and 4.
Any thoughts on this too? Anybody?

Ed

Hi Ed,
I’ve just tried this and it appears to work as expected for me. What version of
Freeway are you using?
Thanks,
Tim.

Hi Ed,
Yes, that page is out of date now. I wrote it before you could reset errors in
actions in Freeway Pro. Unfortunately it won’t work with Express as the
application will only run compiled actions and therefore shouldn’t create
instances where the action returns an error.
I’ll update the page as soon as I can.
Thanks for the prompt.
Regards,
tim.

I’m using Express 5. I just tried restarting it and it still does it. Roxane didn’t know how to fix it either.
