Rollovers all over the place...

I refuse to rollover and let this get the better of me quite literally! I have a number of rollover issues and none of them to do with falling out of bed I hasten to add.

At the example site I have set up the “Click here” buttons with a simple rollover effect which works fine on the bottom three.
On the middle one there is a target layer which appears which also has a number of rollovers included within it.
I cannot get the first of these the ‘click for map’ to function with the rollover effect and create the desired appearance of the map in a subsequent layer. If I take off the rollover effect then the map layer does appear.
When I add the ‘click for map’ to the layer then the ‘normal’ and ‘clicked’ states in the rollover control panel include every image in the layer. What am I doing wrong here?

There is another rollover effect on the main page which has a “link to pdf” action on it which does not work so I have removed the rollover effect temporarily and the ‘link to pdf’ action then works.

Is this to do with the layering? It may be a simple task to resolve and maybe I’ve been looking at it too long.
A fresh pair of eyes and an expert brain may resolve this with a knowing grin and a tsk tsk!

Any inputs welcome.

At the example site I have set up the “Click here” buttons with a simple rollover effect which works fine on the bottom three.

Can I first of all say that it is not obvious that these lead to a pop-up. The first thing I wanted to do was use the back button to get me back to the previous ‘page’ - which of course doesn’t work. I think you could make the ‘close’ link far more obvious to differentiate.

On iPhone your page is virtually unusable as any scrolling and zooming brings the logo in front of the content and the nav menu is unreachable.

I would be more concerned about the basic construction before worrying about the rollovers.

Many thanks for that Dave.
I shall maybe add the text ‘Close’ beside the close button.

I’ve not fully tested it on other devices yet. I have changed the dimensions location to ‘top’ in the graphic item menu for the logo in Freeway.
The menu and logo now move in when zooming the page on an iphone. It seems ok in the browsers I have checked it on on the main machines.
I’ll look at this some more as I do have a few things to rectify.
However it is the rollovers I was hoping to try to resolve.

I do appreciate your inputs.

I should also mention that there are many javascript errors on your page which all relate to the Google Map

Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://www.bridging-the-gap.org/ from frame with URL Bridging the Gap Venues - Google My Maps. Domains, protocols and ports must match.

Try your page without the map and see if that sorts the rollover issue.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for this.

I’m not sure what version you may be looking at here. I have uploaded a new version. I did manage to get the rollovers working and so far everything is functioning the way I had hoped though I dare say it could be done better, or more efficiently.
I am always keen to learn how I can improve on what I am doing.

Where can I see these errors? They aren’t showing when I am viewing the site in the few browsers that I check things on.

One of my main issues is the fact that as I live in Ye Olde Powerpc world then I have no browser which is really up to date to ensure that it looks as the more up to date browsers are seeing it.

Were economic circumstances different then I would upgrade but ce la vie!

Still seeing javascript errors from http://www.bridging-the-gap.org/index.html - and of course i have no idea what version it is as there is no visual clue for me. The middle Click Here link doesn’t work for me (latest annual report) and I dont see a link to the map,

Where can I see these errors?

If you have Safari’s Developer menu enabled then you can right click the page to Inspect Element and see any errors (no matter what version of Safari)

Here is the first hit I found about enabling the Developers Menu in Safari

Hullo Dave,

I’ve had a look at the error but I have very limited knowledge of a lot of the code etc. I’m not sure if it may be anything to do with the google map being contained within the layer which is not visible? Just a thought.

The link for the map is on the layer which appears with the click here buttons middle and left ones that is.
The map is linked to from within the layers as well.
The non functioing pdf download issue is one I have tried a few variations to get the rollover and the download action to work.
Is it wise to use both Download PDF action as well as the Force Download one on the same item? Is it necessary if you want to ensure that the pdf is downloaded?

Thanks for your input.

I would suggest that you try the page without the map at all first and see if that resolves the download issue.

Thanks again Dave, I shall be coming back round to this project shortly. I’m spinning plates currently!
