ScriptyLightbox Help Needed

Hello

We absolutely love this Action but we are having a few issues. Not sure if we are doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Here are the issues we are having.

  1. Using the light box to display either Flash or Quicktime does not seem to embed the coding necessary for browsers to detect the need for a plugin if they don’t have it. How do we set up the page manually so the user will be prompted as to the need for a particular plugin. Also does this mean that the Eolas Workaround is also not included in the code? (Issue noted in IE 6-8)

  2. In the link below you will notice that the images scale proportionately depending on the window size. On our site using the Latest Scripty Lightbox Action they don’t. What are we doing wrong. (Issue noted in IE 6-7 not sure about 8)

  3. Noticed an issue with both our site and the link below where the grayed out area seems to load to the size of the window but if the window is opened up larger the new exposed area is not grayed out. Our site sometimes has half of the window grayed out after load. Is this a known bug or did we do something wrong. Could live with it for now while it is being fixed (Issue noted in IE 6-7 not sure about 8)

Here is the link to a website that uses this action successfully.
http://scripty.walterdavisstudio.com/lightbox/

Here is the link to the page on our site.

Thank You, Team SDA

These issues are known and until the developer can fix them, there isn’t much you can do. Unless you want to learn how to code your own lightbox.

I know he is extremely busy currently, so it might be a while. I really need these fixes also, so I can certainly empathize.

I’m not sure about item 2, haven’t seen that before, but I use the lightbox for video only.

Sorry I can’t provide a better answer.

That’s because the action creator and resident Freeway guru is off on a beach vacation!

OK,

Well that is actually a good thing. We so appreciate the Guru’s help, we rely on it, it is what makes the Freeway experience so good. Vacations are not only fun but necessary. Enjoy guy’s look forward to you return.

George do you think that this Action will get cleaned up soon as I have already built and designed around the idea of using it. Willing to live with a few glitches if it wont be to long but need to pursue another direction if it looks to be off in the distant future. I understand you are not the author, just thought you might have some idea of timing.

Thank You, Team SDA Member (Dave)

Hi Dave,

Don’t forget Walter is doing this from the goodness of his own heart -
I’m sure if it were a paid job you could get some idea of time frames.
In the meantime, there are plenty of other solutions out there on that
thar web jobby:

A suite of Actions for Freeway:
http://www.coastalrugs.com/Actions/mootoolssuite.html

These aren’t Actions but should all easily work in Freeway (examples
of FancyZoom can be seen on this very list):
http://www.nickstakenburg.com/projects/lightview/
http://highslide.com/ (seems to be down atm)
cabel.name: FancyZoom 1.1
Dynamic Drive DHTML Scripts- Lightbox image viewer 2.1

Joe is right. Walter created this on his own and I am guessing (only a guess) it will be a while before it gets updated.

The links Joe provided don’t address the need for movies in a lightbox. There are a number of move-lightboxes out there, but not knowing javascript or how to write actions in Freeway I am of no help!

I doubt Walter is the only person who can create the lightbox action of our dreams, but no one else has stepped up yet.

Good luck.

Greetings from the beach. Scripty Lightbox uses Lightwindow as it’s core, but not all of it’s features mapped neatly onto the Freeway interface. Further, I disabled a lot of its gallery features to make it simpler.

I don’t know when I’ll have time to tackle this again, but I agree it needs some polishing. One issue in all this is that while Lightwindow is very powerful, it has also been abandoned by it’s creator and has some difficulties with IE8.

Hi,

I’m really impressed with Lightview and it would be the answer to a project I’m considering; basically a map with multi media information pop ups.
What would be really nice though is a step by step tutorial as to how such can be integrated into Freeway, for us non code minded individuals.

I’m assumming that it can be integrated somehow ?

Hi Joe,

Went to the Lightview site and it looks like it works well on different browsers and platforms. I agree with the Seoras post, Is there a tutorial or could you advise as to how to set this up in Freeway.

Walter, thank you for getting back, we see you on this forum a lot and your input and help is always valued. Enjoy the beach.

Hello Joe,

We manually placed lightview into freeway and it was rather simple (except for all the extra files we have to upload). So far lightview is working very well. But we are having issues with internet explorer 8. We are aware that there is a javascript to fix lightview for IE8 and we downloaded it and placed it in our site folder on our server. Even after that we are having issues in IE8. When we go to our site IE8 tells us we need to use its compatibility with older browsers option, this does not happen on the lightview website. When we don’t use this setting we get an error message on any page with lightview, and lightview does not work. Could this have anything to do with the way we installed the prototype.js file (IE8 fix)? Please help.

Our website is.

Thanks,
Team SDA Member (Vince)

When using lightview in freeway for displaying flash movie file, I had the problem of the movie not being displayed according to the dimension set in the title attribute (which was entered in the Extended section of Edit Hyperlink). The problem only existed when I used Chinese character as the title, and was back to normal when I switched back to English character.

To work around I inserted the whole thing as Item HTML Markup, and it was okay even I used Chinese character as title.

Is there a way of solving this problem? Please help. Thanks.

Regards,
Lawrence

Hi Lawrence,

Freeway might be trying to do some encoding with the Chinese
characters when entered in this way. If you send an example to us at
support (support(a)softpress.com) we will take a look for you.

Thanks Joe for your prompt help. Your advice on changing the encoding type to Traditional Chinese worked.

Thanks once again for your help.
