ScriptyLightbox2 was written much later, and is a complete rewrite. It does way less than ScriptyLightbox, but it aims for better iPad and iPhone compatibility.
Visually, the primary difference is that SL2 pops up a shadowed window within the page, while SL uses the darkened overlay with a photo framed inside it. ScriptyLightbox’s core effect was written by someone else, and I modified it to make it work within Freeway. While the original library supported galleries of photos and other niceties, I couldn’t figure out how to map that on to the Freeway interface, so I removed all that. But one thing it does have going for it is that it has handlers for LOTS of different content formats. SL2 is deliberately centered around things you can show on an iPad.
Either one of them can be used to show a large photo file without the need to create a page to hold that file. For SL2, you simply select that photo in the Action interface, and you’re done. For SL, you need to apply the Graphic Link to File Action to your trigger element, and use that Action’s interface to locate and link to the original large photo, then apply the SL Action either to the trigger element or a parent of that element.
SL2 will link to a page and show that page in its popup window, and SL will also – but SL requires that your page be a page fragment, which involves applying the PHP Make Insert Page Action to that target page, which then strips off the outer html, head and body tags.
