SCROLLABLE WINDOW

Basically, I need to know how to create a scrollable window (with a customizable scroll bar) within my window. On this site ( Women's Clothes | Shop The Largest Collection | ShopStyle ) is an example of what is I would exactly like to create. Can anyone tell me how to create this?

Thanks!

This link should give you the info you need: http://freewaytalk.net/thread/view/30155#m_30467

There is also an alternative method in the Tutorials section. Search for Custom Scrollbar.

Hmm, I took another look at your example page. I didn’t realize you were asking about the horizontal scroll bar. That is still possible just not with the examples I mentioned. As far as the horizontal scrolling areas and buttons, take a look at this thread: http://www.freewaytalk.net/thread/view/15843

Actually, try this one, it’s almost exactly what you’re after.

What if I don’t have Freeway 5… I just have 4?

You can do it, but you won’t have all the same widgets on the
Inspector to make it easy. Freeway 4 also does not let you make a
child element that is larger than its parent, while Freeway 5 will.
So you will need to use an Action like Simple Include Pro <http://
freewayactions.com> or Wedge Layer <http://www.coastalrugs.com/
Actions> to get the ship in the bottle.

But I would recommend that you upgrade, for any number of reasons.
Any Actions you are likely to find coming out now are going to be 5-
first, and 4-later-or-grudgingly, for one example. For another, the
generated code quality is much higher with 5.

I have upgraded to Freeway5 and tried creating a “dumby” of this function and I can’t seem to get it to work. Is there anyway you can take a look at the page and my code and let me know what seems to be wrong?

I’m not sure if I should create the scroll bar within the HTML items or outside it. When creating the scroll elements within can those be either HTML or Graphic items.

Sorry but I’m not knowledgable with coding.

The scroll bar, and the scrolling area both have to be html boxes. The bar itself that moves, also known as “the thumb”, can be a graphic so you can make it look anyway you want.

The scrollbar should be an HTML item, the thumb (the part you move)
can be either an image or another HTML box.

You have larger issues here, though. When you upgraded to Freeway 5,
you also needed to re-install the Protaculous Action. Freeway 4 and 5
do not share Actions folders (unless you use an Alias to make the do
that, as some on the list recommend.)

The primary reason why this isn’t working for you is that your page
has not loaded the prototype.js and scriptaculous.js libraries.

Sooo… has anyone ever told you you’re a genius? Haha. Because you are. Works great! For a non-coder this is cool!

Thanks so much for your help!

I’m having problems when I’ve started to create more pages in Freeway creating this window. This one page works. http://www.myhautegift.com/womenclothing.html

But this other is created the same way and doesn’t work.
http://www.myhautegift.com/womenshoes.html

Could you take a look at the scripts and let me know why the “womenshoes” page isn’t working?

Thanks so much!

I’m also having an issue. Within my scrollable window, I am trying to have rollovers as well. But for some reason the more I add, it makes the window not scrollable when I preview. Not sure why this would be happening. Any suggestions?

Could you post a link to such a broken page? It’s hard to say what
the problem might be from a distance. Most likely there is a
JavaScript error.

This page is missing its Prototype and Scriptaculous libraries.
Something happened to cause them not to publish. Either they aren’t
properly installed (did you just update versions of Freeway, maybe?)
or another Action is messing with their ability to upload the files.
(Did you get any errors when you were publishing?)

Within the scrolling window I’m trying to place a rollover. so within the scrollable window there would be the rollover action on the icon. and then the target show/hide layer on the graphic to show when rolled over. No error when publishing.

The fact remains that the libraries are not being published. If you
view source on your page, you’ll see these lines:

<script src="" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
</script>
<script src="" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
</script>

The first set of empty quotes should be Resources/prototype.js and
the second should be Resources/scriptaculous.js.

It’s very weird. As soon as I make an item within the inner scroll window a rollover action, the scroll stops working. Is there anyway I can figure out why this is happening? Or what could be causing this?

File a bug report with Softpress at support[at]softpress.com and
explain the steps you have taken to get a working scroll, and then
that last part, where it breaks. I don’t know why it would be
happening like that, it really shouldn’t. Rollover doesn’t use or
engage Scriptaculous in any way.
