Scrolling Text Help

Thanks for all the really helpful info up here guys.

If anyone needs to create scrolling text I have managed a decent enough way to do it, with a few wart and all fixes…

Re the browser jumping off once the scrolling text at the bottom becomes into view,

a QUICK FIX, is to draw a blank item at the bottom of your page…

It still leads to a scrolling bar but it least it won’t suddenly jump out of the way creating an annoying jerking action for the user…

all the best

“a QUICK FIX, is to draw a blank item at the bottom of your page…”

If you have the time I’d be interested to have a look at the result and freeway file!

Hi guys
I have been reading this thread hoping for some help

I have scrolling images displayed in an iFrame, works great now, but the scroll has no stop mechanism… and the arrows disappears as page moves so one must wait til the end, and can not stop it.

Please advise.

Thx so much I am new to Freeway Pro, have been using Express for too long

Hi Carla

How did you create your scrolling images? Knowing the process you used will help us to diagnose the problem.

BTW you really should have somewhere that you can upload test pages for exactly this purpose.

Hi David

well I just figured out how to have the scroll arrow to stay fixed in window by clicking layer and Fixed in window in inspector

Now I have to get it to stop.

I am getting there! so close

I used iFrame and used scroll action on the arrow.

There is an action called Scroll Layer

http://softpress.com/kb/article.php?id=098

With detailed instructions at:

http://www.softpress.com/action_files/Scroll_Layers/#

Which I think would be better suited to what you want to do.

Create an HTML layer item which your content will scroll inside - apply action Scroll Layer

Create another layer item that you put your scrolling content inside and apply Scroll Content action.

Create graphic up and down arrows and apply scroll button action to each.

Set parameters for all three actions (which are contained within Scroll Layer package on download from Softpress site.

Publish

On publish the content layer is not displayed on the page (so it doesn’t matter where you put it but better on pasteboard out the way). Instead the content is displayed in the layer with the Scroll Layer action applied to it.

The graphic arrows you created are set to control scroll up, down, stop etc.

Yes david

I downloaded this Scroll layer yesterday but it was so confusing to me… I am setting up my arrows now…Are you telling me I would have to redo everything and use scroll layer to make it possible to stop?

I will do this if you say so

Thx David

Oh now I remember David… I tried to use the Scroll Layer action but it was only up and down and not across.
My images run across the iFrame window

You can simply copy and paste the contents over to the new layers.

Any particular reason for having them horizontal.

Hi Dave

each page has an arrow, going right and left as I was told that the arrow had to be inside the iFrame, on the page with scroll. so all my arrows lay on each page.

The alternative if you want horizontal images is to use Walter’s Carousel Action - a bit more tricky to set up.

Again if we could see what you were trying to achieve it would make it easier for us.

I work with an illustrator whose images run across the page as a scroll within the frame… The images do not look right going up and down, graphically it is pleasing. You might have thought I was using text.

David

Here is the old website link

http://www.davidpfendler.com/projects.html

At first I thought the arrows were outside the frame but soon realized they were inside.

This is what I would like to recreate … almost there but can not stop the scroll at will Carla

Having now looked at that link I think Carousel will be ideal for your needs.

Well David I will try it

are the arrows outside of iFrame? and not on each scroll page?

There are no IFrames involved.

It is created by stacking layers one on top of the other.

Search the forum for Carousel Action for more info.
