I need some help and inspiration.
First ( and i realy don’t know how to do this ) i have to make something that people can look up the nearest distributor or a product i’m making a site for.
I’ve been running away from php now for such a long time, but i’m affraid i won’t be able now anymore…

secound, i have no idea in what shape to put it… i want to keep it nice, clean, simple. but how?and what would you suggest?
mayby a fresh look on things could make me see the light?
situation; i have a brand, that has distributors, people should be able to look on the website to find the nearest distributor ( perhaps by city name, perhaps by postal code/zipcode 4 nubmers 2letters )
i am a bit lost…
yes i could look on the net myself, but i realy am so blanc right now, i need a bit help in getting inspiration.

Although a task like this is far from simple (plotting the locations of the stores, the user and then working out the relative distances while taking into account the curvature of the Earth) there are a number of canned solutions you can buy into that will do this for you. A quick search found the following article, for example, with an example and source code demonstrating how to do this in PHP; http://aciddrop.com/2007/12/17/quick-easy-and-free-nearest-store-postcodezip-finder/
I would imagine that you could also do this on the client side as well using one of the mapping technologies from Google, Yahoo or Microsoft.

I did actually write my own Google Maps action a while ago and used it for a
couple of projects before shelving it when I saw Softpress were creating their
own for FW5. I may dig this back out and add this functionality into it but
I’ll have to see how much work there is there.
