I have about 20GB (5 items @ 4GB each) I need to electronically
transfer to someone, preferably with little or no cost. Suggestions?
Amazon S3 (I have a basic account but have never used it), FTP etc.? I
can break things down slightly into more manageable sizes but the
other person would need to reassemble the files in the correct way.
Not ideal. Time is not so much of an issue so using FTP is an option,
albeit a tedious one.
Free, up to 100MB files, uses S3 as its storage and security through
obscurity for privacy. Files are automatically deleted after a time
period you set.

Sort of answering my own question but what about P2P for sharing

Todd, if time is not an issue, how about writing 5 DVDs and putting
them in the mail?
Hi Paul,
In fact that’s what I did the first time around and while time is not
a major concern I would still like to get it done in a day if
possible. Unfortunately I made some technical errors when burning the
first set and they were incompatible for my friend which we discovered
a week after the fact so I would like to send the files and have her
burn them.
However, I realize I may need to burn them and send them by Post anyway.
It seems pretty good so far, though if I’m honest I haven’t actually done much with it. They have plans for more storage too (60gb is $10 a month).

why not just upload the disc images in a zip or tar file and send
the url - when you go to the url the download should start
automatically

I would say that for anything that large, FedEx will be faster every
single time. Even if you work at an ISP and have multiple redundant
glass pipes to the 'net, somebody else will then need to download
those files, and waste quite a few days of their lives trying to get
the data down in one piece (failing mid-way through, starting over
again, etc.). I lived through this once, trying to get about 25GB up
to a cloud server for a document management system. This was in the
days before you could mail a drive to Amazon and they would just plug
it in and load up the cloud with your ridiculous amount of data.

Worst case scenario, just email me and I’ll give you FTP access so
you can host it on my server space since I have unlimited bandwidth

Thanks Dan. I appreciate the offer. Very nice of you. I’ll let you
know if I need to.
