No there aren’t any security concerns as Mal’s Eccommerce uses secure methods to transfer payements such as Paypal…which mean it is not alway Mals itself that handles the money side.
Also, with regards to the security of keeping prices without alteration there are certain codes that assigned to products which means that the prices cannot be changed.
If it’s download products you are selling then you may wish to consider Link-Locks (http://www.link-lock.com/software/linklock-mals-e.html) which automaticall sends out a hidden link to the customers for download…meaning that they can not see where the file is stored. Also, this provides a time in which that file can be downloaded and a specific number of times the file can be downloaded!
Joe Billings from softpress gave me that link as well. Yeah, my goal it have customers download my tutorials so it would be good it the download link was only good for a period of time.
I will need to look into this. Thanks!
I’d probably go for the send out link option as it means you don’t have to do anything each time a tutorial is ordered…it is automatic. As a pose to you having to post out CDs.
However, there may be a market for the disc version too. Perhaps think about offering the option of a disc at least for a short ‘trial’ period once your store has started to sell and then from that decide whether it is really wanted or not.
If you hoped this to amount any quantity then I’d use linklok for Mals as I
mentioned recently to this or a similar thread.
If it was that difficult to implement I wouldn’t be able to do it
If you like the walk to the post box or post office then maybe it’ll save
you from screen death - but otherwise the download option is worth setting
up for an ongoing flow of videos.
all the best

BTW, does anyone have an opinion on which avenue would be better?
Since most people have broadband access these days the download option is more expedient and in my opinion more popular because of it. Besides, you have to charge more for disk and shipping so the cost of download is going to be more tempting.
But…if these tuts are HUGE files, download may not be viable.
Plus…if you know your producing high quality tutorials then it might be an idea trying to get them distributed via the many free CDs that are offered with Mac and PC magazines…just a thought .
