Can anyone tell me the best way to handle a shopping cart
in Freeway. I have never done one before so please keep that in mind. Thanks for your help in advance.

This probably depends on the number of items that are likely to be in your cart.
FW does a great job using the built in shopping cart actions linking in with Mals up to a few hundred of items but if you are going to have thousands then you will be better served by a stand-alone php based cart that draws item info from a database (usually MySql) on the server.
FW ships with Freeway Shop an additional folder containing templates and a guide to its use.
