I’m not as regular here as I used to be. My excuse is I’ve not been engaged on much design work of late, and what I have been doing hasn’t involved much web design at all.
Be that as it may, I’m working on an update to a site with a gallery section. I have four subsections to this gallery, and I thought I’d be clever and use Showcase to create them.
That was the easy bit.
Placing the four galleries in my Freeway page is proving harder. I would like the visitor to the site to click on a gallery thumbnail they fancy to get the nice slideshow.
Now, I can build a page with all four galleries on it. If I show the galleries as Thumbnail Gallery, I get every single image in each gallery overlaid down the page. That’s just a mess, and not at all what I want. I want a single thumbnail to represent each gallery. I can’t find anything in Showcase or the Action controls to let me do that.
So, I try the slideshow type. This is nice, but I now don’t seem to be able to click one to get the large slideshow any more. In fact, if I’m not pixel-perfect with the container size, I can actually see the large images cycling round behind the slideshow thumbnails.
I am flummoxed.
I am doing something wrong, but I can’t work out what. Is it even possible to have more than one Showcase gallery or slideshow on a page? If so, how do I arrange the settings to make it all work nicely?
I’m afraid it’s either a thumbnail gallery or a slideshow only. We’ve a suggestion logged to do exactly what you want to do already (only show one of the thumbs on the page and have that fire up the “lightbox” containing all the images in that gallery), so I’ll add your name to the list. In the meantime, it sounds like you might want to try Walters ScriptyLightbox Action, or Weavers Lightbox Action.
