site building: confused !!

Good afternoon,

I am getting all confused with this site I am building. I first build all the bkg. elements, See image (http://users.telenet.be/willemyns/Picture%203.png)
and then , on different pages , added additional elements (http://users.telenet.be/willemyns/Picture%204.png) !
But it is difficult to select certain components, while others seems to be imbedded, and hard to move. I have to admit this way its is getting me nowhere ! I tried al kinds of things, lock, unlock, send to bkg. and so on, it’s getting more and more confusing, so I thing I did it all wrong from the beginning…
Where did I go wrong ???

But it is difficult to select certain components, while others seems

First, you are not doing anything wrong if you use a Master page and
add additional elements for each new page. What you need to do is make
use of the Site Panel on the left of the application window. At the
bottom, click on the little cog wheel icon and select Show Items. This
way you you will see all the items on each page and be able to select
them individually from the site panel. You can also use the small
disclosure item along side page titles to open or close individual
stacks of items.

A good practice is to give each item a unique name, via the Inspector
Title box, to help you quickly identify different elements.

You will also be able to move items up an down the stacking order in
the site panel and, by dragging them slightly left or right, change
the Parent and Child status of an item. Note that this might mean
checking the layer box in the inspector when child items are removed
form a Parent and become unlayered.

Also note that Child items are constrained within the border of the
parent when you try to move them. Drag them out of the Parent, in the
site panel, by moving them to the left and above or below the Parent.

With CSS on, if you draw a new element totally within the bound of
another it becomes a Child of that element. To keep it separate, Draw
it outside of the page window and then drag into position,

If an HTML item is not the top layer and you select it, hit Return and
you can then add text and inline elements, however deep down it may be.

For a Graphic box, select the item then go to the Item menu and choose
Modify to change or edit the content. (Or use shortcut keys Shift+Alt
+Command+M).

Hope that gets you going more smoothly.

Colin
