You’re moving in the right direction. BUT don’t use such a fine-grained grid!

Try five columns and a very few horizontal guidelines. Then stick to
those religiously. YES, this will be restrictive. That’s why the
layout will start to feel like something built with some consistency
and spatial logic.

Did you manage download the example Freeway document and look at how
it was made?
