Sitemap?

I just discovered the last time I submitted a Sitemap using the FWP Sitemap Action the file created was labeled “sitemapb.xml” instead of simple “sitemap.xml”.

Doesn’t that naming convention affect search engine’s ability to find the xml file.

Why was a “b” inserted in the name?

I had this problem a few weeks back, i have no idea how it happened, but at the time i was experiencing issues with FW and Time Machine having some conflicts, but this may not have anything to do with this problem.

I realised i had the issue when i looked at my Google Webmaster account page and it flagged an error for the site in question… further investigation identified that Google could not find sitemap.xml, then i released what had happened when i looked in the site folder…

Sorry this is not much help to you…

it happens by default when you publish your page (often). Annoying yes - but navigate to your site folder and delete the sitemap(bcdefge).xml files (or complete content of site folder) and republish so you’re back in game. A method to avoid is to me unknown.

Hey Thomas, I tried deleting the sitemapb.xml file and when I resubmitted the site map from within FWP it still uploaded a “b” version.

Joe, do you have any insight on why this is happening?

… I said:

Correct?

So I thought the “s” in file is clear enough for “ALL” sitemap.xml(s) available in the site folder that need to be deleted.

If I recommend to delete the “COMPLETE CONTENT” of site folder I don’t do this without having a reason for it, cause I expect much more b,c,d and so on files within your “RESOURCES” folder as well.

Correct? I’m ready to set a high value bet for this.

Cheers

My bad Thomas. I didn’t quite understand what you were saying. You were correct, there were several sitemap files in the FWP Site Folder. I was simply deleting the sitemap files on the server.

However, this brings up an interesting question. If I were to delete the FWP Site Folder would I lose any data or does FWP simply rebuild the entire folder from scratch?

Hi,

On an issue which required “resetting the Site Folder” i have been advised by Softpress support to create an Archive of your work i.e. when in the site giving the problem go to File> Save as Archive, then close the file you are currently using and then reopen the new "Archived "version …

hope this helps…

When Freeway uploads, it compares the content of your local site folder with what’s currently on the server, and only uploads the newer files from the local folder.

You can completely empty the local site folder (or switch to a different folder using the Document Setup dialog) and when you do, Freeway will re-build your entire site the next time you publish. Sometimes this is a very handy way to sort out issues with Actions that publish files, as you have seen. An Action will get confused, forget that it created sitemap.xml (for example) and then when it publishes again, it creates a new file with a b,c,d, tacked on to the end. This happens so that an Action won’t overwrite an existing file that it didn’t create.
