Does anyone know how I can have more than 20 images appear in a single area, from a large number of rollover commands?
For example, I have a map and want images to appear in only one box at the bottom of the page when different areas of the map are rolled over - problem is that there are more than 20 rollovers.
I realise there are a number of groups for the slave images and I can create say 5 different Slave images for a handful of rollovers but I cant seem to place one slave image on top of the other without it stopping the image underneath from being seen.
Alternatively I have tried to use the ‘Slave Show/Hide Image’ action with each image (even though managing each will be a pain) but the same problem arises i.e placing one ontop of the other stops the one below from appearing when it is rolled over.
Am I missing something or is there no way this can be done? Due to space restrictions I ideally need to have about 100 images appear in one area when they are individually rolled over.
Cheers mate - but for some reason when I apply the Slave Show/Hide Layer action to a graphic item and place it on top of another graphic item the one underneath is hidden when the rollover is performed???
Is there something basic I am missing here - because I sure feel like a dick
Do you mean that when an image appears it remains visible and doesn’t
go away when the trigger is rolled off? Do you have an example that
people can look at?

Can i place one graphic on top of another & trigger a Slave Show/
Hide layer with a rollover?
You can make a stack of graphics and then cycle through it applying
settings by using Alt-Command-Click or use the Page pane at the left
of the window and select items from the list.
You could try these settings worked out for me by Joe Billings and
see if that achieves what you want. This was working with the FW5
beta so not sure how equivalent settings are in 4Express (in FW4 Pro
the fade setting isn’t there but it isn’t strictly necessary i
think). Check out the link to see if the operation will do as you
want. In your application of the method the word layers would be
piled up in a stack of layers each showing and hiding in the same
place as you move to the next rollover. Each group - Aqua, Indigo
etc- will give you 20 separate rollovers. I haven’t tried how you’d
hide the last one when switching to a new group though in order to
achieve your 100 images .
There’s never been a better time (ie in this pre-order window) to
upgrade to the next version IMHO - it might be worth you playing with
the FW5 Beta if you are still starting your site - some good stuff in
there.
Hope this makes sense and that I have understood you.
Cheers

Hi Pete,
I have just found a way to do what you want with the Target Show/Hide
Layer Action (old name Slave Show/Hide Layer Action).
Apply the Rollover Action to the first image in the row, in the
Parameters section of the Actions Palette (with the Rollover
selected) set the MouseOver# to 1. Do the same to the other images
but change theirs to MouseOver# 2 and 3 respectively.
Apply the Target Show/Hide Layer Action to each of the HTML layer
items that you want to be triggered and set each of their settings as:
Initially: Hidden
Restore: Sticky
Effect: Fade
Duration: 0.5
Target Group: Indigo
and Target# 1 for the first 2 for the second and 3 for the third.
Preview in the browser and you should get something like this:
The answer is no - you can’t have more than 20 for each Slave Group but if you use 5 different Slave Groups with 20 for each you get the 100 that you are looking for.
I am assuming that you want images to appear when rolling over locations on a map.
This is the method I would use in 4 Pro - if you can use Show/Hide Layer in Express then this will work for you.
The tricky bit is stacking the 100 images - probably best doing it after applying the actions.
With map picture on page draw a graphic item over map picture at location required at size required. Make it a layer and not to combine. Apply rollover action. In Rollover Parameters pane select Mouseover>Items then Select Slave Group - start with Indigo and for the first 20 choose 1 to 20. For the next 20 choose a different Slave Group Aqua, Cadmium etc. until you have done all 100.
Once you have all your rollovers then create the Graphic items that will become the Layered images that will appear when your rollovers are rolled over.
Create one layered graphic (the size required for all) - apply action Slave Show/Hide Layer set parameters Initially - Hidden, Slave Group - Indigo, Slave No - 1. Then Item>Duplicate No of copies 99 (or whatever) Horizontal offset (10px) - just so that you can easily select them later to change the settings on each one.
Once you have duplicated select each one in turn, import the new pic, select the Slave Group and the Slave No (to match your Rollovers). Give each one a unique name to make it easier to distinguish them later. eg Use their location name.
Once they are all done select them all and align them on top of each other.
If you need to select them later use the Site/Page selector on the left of your screen to show all the items on your page. Click on the item name you want to change.
I really got help from these answers, because I suddenly had too many photos
BUT - using 2 slave groups gives me a problem. When I move the cursor from top to bottom, it refuses to show images when it changes from one group to another. The same thing does not occur when I start at the bottom and move it upwards.
