Snow Leopard/Freeway Problems

Yes I have a few Illustrator CS5 eps files placed directly into the document but it won’t be too much bother changing them to pngs.

Coupled with the Resample all images advice I will see how it goes next week. But it is clear that it is not a unique issue which can be aimed at a single corrupt system.

If the problem continues, can you send one of the files to us at support(a)softpress.com please?

Cheers,
Joe

. I am running 5.6.1, and although I know there is a update available…

I am curious as to why you are reluctant to update FW. There are updates for good reasons and it seems strange to me not to apply them.

I am sure it has nothing to do with the issues you are having but surely it makes sense to eliminate that as a possibility and also avoid problems that updates are designed to address.

It isn’t that I am reluctant, but that it is a large download, and our internet is painfully slow, and I keep forgetting to set the download in motion at quieter times.

That said, I do fear that sometimes updates can break things, and the site is at a delicate point for things to start going wrong.

I’ve seen nothing but improvements between the versions you note here. I am running the current version on both of my Macs, and it is smooth and responsive. I wasn’t affected by the bugs that were reported fixed, but I feel they were good catches anyway.

Understandable, but 5.6.4 has been out there for ages!

I am certainly not an early adopter of a new OS but incremental updates I implement quickly.

Yes I know! We go through long phases of not working on websites, so when I started this project many moons ago, there was the previous update to this one, which I eventually got around to installing, only to be presented with yet another update.

Hi Jonathan,

If you’re still having the problem, could you try converting your EPS files to the Illustrator format (AI) and see if that helps?

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe

Yes still big problems. I tried saving as pngs but didn’t like how the graphics exported - they are small arrows sitting next to HTML text. I think there is a CSS trick to place such graphics within text but I can’t work that out yet - so my document is full of these little graphic boxes at the moment.

Anyway, I had to go back to using the CS5 .eps graphics instead - and I was having to save and quit just about every other time today but I was getting hassles on the site amends so just persevered.

Will try the .ai route tomorrow workload permitting.

Jonathan

Just to clear up. I only tried one page with pngs so still have lots of placed .eps files within the document.

Ok. The AI files should behave exactly as the EPSs (just without the error message).

Maybe you should consider going down the Icon Font route?

That’s an excellent suggestion.

I quite like the look of that DeltaDave. Of course they don’t have exactly the shaped arrow I want so I need to delve further about maybe generating my own version.

I have used fontdeck recently and it doesn’t seem a million miles away from that kind of set-up.

Thanks

There are many Icon Font sets out there - I am sure you will be able to find something pretty close.

I have only just got back to working on this website, but I have now solved the problem by using Icon Fonts rather than trying the .ai route.

It all seems fixed but I of course won’t know if saving as .ai would have stopped the error happening now I have gont the font route.

Another customer who was suffering from the same problem confirmed that saving as AI wasn’t a solution, unfortunately. Glad you found a different way round it.

I am not working full time on the website so I am not publishing as much, but it did seem to fix it. I will report back here if it happens again when I make the next batch of changes to the site.

Glad I went the Icon Font route if .ai still has the issue. Hope your other customers gets sorted.
