Snow

Folks I live in Moncton NB Canada and in one week we have had from Tuesday last week to this morning three major storms, 39 cm, then 52 cm and over night another 42 cm and it is still snowing till mid morning. Then tomorrow and Friday they have periods of snow in the forecast, so he have 1.33 meters of snow in one week and still counting. Before last Tuesday we may of had 10 cm on the ground.

Sounds like this really great ski-weekend in the French/Swiss Alpes I just returned from.

Northeast in USA just got at least 40 inches of snow in the last week or so. There might be another storm this weekend that is supposed to get even more!

Well I just checked the weather and Thursday we are to receive another 20 cm and by the sounds of it, I say it could be more. They are saying 20 cm and it will continue into the evening which usually means another 5 to 10 cm

He meant 1.33 meters hight, not length as you dutch guys are used to have.

Snow in such high measures are simply dangerous and I wish you all the best there. And I sometimes think:

“Where shall all those masses disappear if it comes to snowmelt?”

Cheers

Thomas one cm of snow is equal to one mm of water when it melts, so 1.33 meters of snow is 133 cm of snow or 13.3 mm of water.

Here in Canada we do build according to the amount of snow that the different parts of the country receive so that roofs do not cave in and we can drain away the water. Some times people do not conform to the standards and then they have issues with buildings.

I do have a sump pump in the basement entrance to take away excess water.
