Social bookmarking

Hi all, I want to add a social bookmarking button for pages on my site ie digg, stumble upon etc. Ive come across this site http://www.addthis.com who provides you with a code to add their multi book mark button. Has anyone had any experience in setting using this in freeway pro or any other method. May thanks

This is really easy to do in Freeway Pro.

In the addtothis site they will give you some code for your account
when you sign up, simply paste this code in a HTML Markup item,
position on your page, upload. Thats it.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://w.sharethis.com/widget/?tabs=web%2Cpost%2Cemail&amp;charset=utf-8&amp;style=default&amp;publisher=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"></script>

We use this on our site it you want to have a look - http://www.ineedwebhosting.co.uk

I would do this the same way. Just place the HTML markup (with the addtothis code) in a position that won’t interfere with the published page.

In order for the mark to be with each post, it has to be attached to the

as instructed though. The only way I can see that is by using the Extended option, but I dont know how to translate that code into the options in the Extended selections. Does this make sense?

Perhaps it might help to nail down some terminology first…

A blog is the entire virtual diary.
A post, also known as an article, is an entry in a blog.
A template is the web page layout that you use in your blog to define
the visual aspects of how posts are listed and shown.

You make a template for your blog using Freeway. In that you can do
anything you like, as long as you also include one or more Blogger
action items, configured appropriately.

So if you want to add a snippet of code that gives you a ‘Digg it’
icon, do it exactly as you’d do it in a normal web page: go to the
Insert menu, choose Markup Item, paste the code into there, and size
up the markup item object to match the size of the button. (This
helps you build your layout more precisely, that’s all.)

This isn’t anything special to do with Blogger, it is simply the
normal process of creating a web page. THEN use the standard simple
process for getting your Freeway-generated Blogger template page code
into the right place in your Blogger account. Remember to upload your
Freeway template somewhere so that any graphic elements are available
to the Blogger-based template, and you’re done.

Understood. I didnt think by simply adding a markup box right under
the blogger posts box in the template would make it work properly.
Darn if I tried it first. I just got stuck - thinking the code had to
be directly applied to the blogger posts box. I’ll try inserting the
markup. Thanks.

Actually sorry, I was using sharethis from http://sharethis.com, not addtothis.

But I’m sure the same principle applies.

hi guys, thanks for your responses. With the add to code:

Im not sure where to apply this code, and if so how do you dictate the location of the button on the page?

Click on the pasteboard, so that nothing on your page is selected.
From the Insert menu, choose Markup Item. Paste your code in the
resulting dialog. Okay the dialog, and you’ll see a 100px square box
on your layout with a little [H] in the corner. Drag and resize this
box to be the dimensions and location you need, and preview or publish
to see your magic buttons (you won’t see anything in the design view
except the empty box).

  1. Copy this code

  2. In Freeway… Main Menu > Insert > Markup item (Paste this code here)

  3. Position/insert this box HTML snippet where you want it to appear on the page.

  4. Preview/Publish

You do this by adding a Markup Item to the page. This is simply
another object in your layout that you can move around just like
regular HTML or graphic items.

Go to the Insert menu and choose Markup Item. A dialog will open;
paste your code in here, then click OK. You’ll see a 100x100 pixel
box on your page. Size this as required. It appears that your code
loads a 125x16 pixel graphic, so that might be the best size to make
the item.

In short:

  1. Insert > Markup Item
  2. Paste code, click OK
  3. Scale and position the markup item object

This markup item won’t show the results of the code unless you
preview, so you may find it helpful to give the item a fill colour
to help you get the feel for how it works within your page layout. On
the other hand, the fill colour might interfere with how it looks in
a browser; test and decide.
