I like using the Spawn New Window action.
But, is there any way to style or change the look of the spawned window? I know its a browser window and this may be possibly undesirable. But a way to remove the top close/minimise/maximise buttons and grey bars top and bottom would be good.
Failing that is there another way to emulate with such apparent ease the SNW action and generating a new page with varied content such as a gallery/slideshow/movie or sound files?
Its been a while since I’ve been on here for one reason and another. Hope that this finds everyone well.
Cheers
HI,
the Spawn New Window Action does have options in the Action Palette to hide or show certain aspects of windows. The title bar is one that can’t be hidden.
Also some modern browsers don’t allow you to hide things like the Address or Status bar - this is for security purposes - the user may want to be assured that the content of the new window is not from somewhere less desirable.
It’s a different world now to when I started on that Action way back in the days of Freeway 2.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Its not a huge issue but the relative simplicity of spawning and closing a window as such makes life easier in many contexts.
However to be able to control all of the visual appearance of the window is what I’d like to achieve.
Are there other ways of achieving the styleable, controllable, and content uninhibited pop up window?
I use show/hide layers triggers/targets which do a good job but again the relative simplicity of the spawn/close is a good quick alternative.
If you want the window to be a separate entity to the main browser window, then no - the window will always be subject to browser restrictions, and the OS chrome (title bar, control buttons, etc) will always be present. While the SNW Action can tell the browser what it wants, the final arbiter of this is the browser itself. So, no - there isn’t a way to completely restyle an external window.
If you want to make your own “windows” then really, as you have already hinted, you will need to use show/hide layers etc. and make those look like the windows you feel you want. Just remember that these are constrained to the parent browser window.
There is the iPad friendly variant for the SNW Action, but there aren’t currently aren’t any options to style the pop-ups that creates other than a bit of positional data for the close button.
