Sticker action issue Safari

Hi

I’m using the sticker action as a side nav menu.

The menu starts 400px from the top of the page inline with content. I have the action set to 20px from the top of a scrolling browser page.

All fine so far. Now, I’ve got links in the menu to anchors in the page, that smooth scroll when clicked. Great - working fine.

But when the browser is scrolled back to the top of the page, in Safari the Sticker portion including menu content doesnt return to its 400px from top, but continues to the top of the Safari window (to the 20px set in the action).

So any idea what i need to do for this to work in Safari? The action is working fine in Firefox, and the sticker menu returns to its starting postion when scrolled to top.

The page is built all inline, with the side menu set to float right, against the main content which is floated left.

Thanks

There’s so many things going wrong here. Does this page have the RPL Action applied to it, by any chance? If it does, please try applying the Remove from RPL Action to the Sticker element, and see if that sorts it for you. If not, I am stumped without further info about how you constructed the page.

Worrying you should say that Walter!

Ive built the site with an inline layout. I’ve not used the RPL. The content area is contained in a central div. The main content in the left is within a div and the sub menu is within it’s own div. The background colour and rounded corners are set in the background options in the inspector, which has put elements into a table.

I have used the externalize action on this page, but not for JavaScript. I have used smooth scroll action for the anchor links and several elements on the page have CSS styles assigned through extended additions in the style menu.

Don’t know if that helps for now. I’ll be able to give you more details Monday when I’m back at my desk. Let me know if you need any other details. Thanks.

If your sticker element is inline, then I doubt it will work. You need to make that one element a floating layer, separate from the rest of the page, then the Action will stick it in place and keep it properly positioned.

Hi Walt.

I tried the floating div, but that still didnt work. What it seems to be is a conflict with the Externalize action.

I’ve turned it off and the problem goes away. It’s a shame because I’d really like to keep the code clean and I didnt want to have inline styles bloating out the code.

I dont know if there’s a way to select areas that you dont want externalizing (like in the same way you can remove items from the RPL action), but I’ll do some digging to see if there’s an alternative.

Thanks for your help

Hi Walter

I hope you can help. Tim Plumb looked into the clash of Externalize and the sticker action and managed to find a solution, but meant that you’d need to alter the sticker action to work with Externalize. Is this something you would be able to do?

If you could let me know that would be great.

Thanks

Mark

Tim and I have talked about it, and I think I understand what’s needed. I haven’t had a time to dig into it yet, though.

Nice site by the way Mark - which service / method are you using for the web fonts?

Thanks Nathan

I’m using the Caxton Action, and generated the web files from Font Squirrel.
