stock management

Is there a way, or does anybody know something that i could implement into a site that needs stockmanagement with its webshop??
the shop would ( idealy) run with Mal’s but i can’t find anything at Mal’s that looks like stockmanagement buttons

i did find the zen cart site, but i don’t think it would work well with FWpro ( does it?) and i’m a bit ( or a lot) scared using something i don’t know at all.
Zen does offer a lot, but i haven’t a clue on how to get it in to my design.

suggestions would be very much appreciated.

It’s been my experience with Web shops that once you start to combine
the ideas of stock and inventory management along with the ordinary
cart and sales models, you run into a very strict choice:

  1. Use a system like Zen or FishCart or OSCommerce or any of the other
open-source cart systems that include this functionality, and (big AND
here) adhere strictly to THEIR idea of what it means to manage
    inventory.

  2. Build something that works the way you think, from scratch. This
latter option is the way most of my clients go, and it always takes
quite a bit longer than the other option, but it always ends up being
the best fit for them on a business level.

It all comes down to how much compromise you (or your client) can
stomach.

Most ISPs have installed one or more of the popular OS cart systems on
even the cheapest shared hosting setup. And if you are either a black-
belt HTML hand-coder or can tolerate one or another of the stock
templates, and can twist into whatever pretzel is required of you by
these “free” solutions, then you can indeed get what it says on the
box – a ready-to-use Web shop for no money down.

But if you want anything even a little bit other than what’s offered,
you get to either un-twist someone else’s idea of what passes for PHP
coding (and do hours and days of detective work to figure out exactly
what to change in which file to make things work even a little bit
differently than the off-the-rack solution) or you can start from
scratch and write something yourself.
