is there a way to stop receiving emails from freeway talk, but continue to have access to the list?

Click the My Account tab on the left of the screen which is where you subscribe/unsubscribe to the lists and mailing lists.

Just un-check the Mail option next to the list you’ve subscribed to.
You may get one or more after that depending on delays in the mail
system, but you will be Web only after that. Note that you will be
able to create new posts by sending mail to the server, you just
won’t get any list mail back.
