I want to be able to post and have my replies come to my email address. I do not have time read the many interesting mails concerning many other matters.
How do I do this?

… am not sure what happens if you hit the unsubscribe link within the eMail.
But if you visit the discussion you like to unsubscribe, giving a short message as reply such as “… thanks guys - I’l try to answer later” and uncheck the “ping me” before hitting Send, you’d be out as well.

If you are subscribed in your user preferences to get the list by mail, then uncheck that and press update to save. Then, on any thread you start or want to be pinged on, check the Ping me option when you contribute to that thread. You will get all updates from that thread by mail, but all other threads will not come to your in-box.
