The same time here (although I didn’t see this for about a half-hour).
I’m near Philadelphia, in Eastern Daylight Time, same as you.

People often think Walter is in their time zone simply because he
seems to sleep!
(and we all thank you for that Walter).

I put it in a .htaccess folder and the main one is rerouting but the secondary one is not.

I put in exactly what I put down below.

if you google energychex you will see 2 w my site and you click on the 1st - goes right there - click on the second (parnership) it will go to a 404

any other suggestions for the second one?

Thanks

Add one more line:

Redirect permanent /energy http://www.energychex.com/

Note the lack of trailing slash on the /energy. You need to do both
here, because the Redirect happens before Apache can do its content-
negotiation dance and figure out that the URL is bad. Technically, a
URL that doesn’t end in a filename extension or a trailing slash is
broken, because it is ambiguous.

It’s normal for a file with a leading dot to be invisible. Most FTP
applications have a function which allows you to see these files when
you enable it. In Transmit, it’s called View/Show Hidden Files. See if
there is a checkbox or other preference in your file manager in cPanel
to allow this.

Where this could get you in trouble is if you don’t already know the
content of that .htaccess file. You might wipe out quite a lot of
directives set up by your hosting provider, among them the secure
folders settings you configured elsewhere. So always best to look with
x-ray goggles before you add a file like this.

Walter,
I found the .htaccess
I put in:

Redirect permanent /energy/parnership/ http://www.energychex.com/
Redirect permanent /energy/ http://www.energychex.com/
Redirect permanent /energy http://www.energychex.com/

The one link found in a google search:
Parnership - 2 visits - 6:44am
How to become a Partner of Energychex. If your company has an energy related service or product that our customers may be interested in please call us or …
www.grassrootsweb.net/energy/parnership.html - Cached

still does not forward to the main page.

the other one for the main page redirects wonderfully.

Is there anything else I can do to redirect the first one?

Thanks

Sure, add the .html to the end of parnership. Did you once upon a time
have a FOLDER named parnership, or did you always just have the PAGE?
Redirects at this level are very literal beasts. You can’t rely on the
normal Apache love-fest to redirect things that are almost but not
exactly what is in the request.

No Go Walter… it is looking for the same page it seems … but

  1. I have made the page titles better for SEO
  2. I would not put that spelling error (knowing about the other) on a real live site…
