I got the solution. It is folder name dependent !
It seems that the path cannot contain a folder name containing “space” character.
In my case, the path was like:
/Users/dd/Documents/A folder name with white characters/
Years ago? In computer ages? Come on. But we´re on MacOSX and I don´t want to either underscore ( _ ) space nor type out special characters nor maim words we have in the German language for example just to save my work.
I would classify this as a bug and I hope this will be fixed. I would submit
a bug report
However I never use spaces for files and folders, for good reasons that are
neither old, nor MacOSX related.
Best.

PS, I’m with Frank on the underscores. Why put up with MS_DOS in Mac OSX?
Anyway, Intaglio should support the AI format, not SVG!

Has Intaglio had an update in recent years? er, nope.
I’ve got the iPhone version of Intaglio, but I never use it.
I wish the developer would spend more time improving Intaglio, because it is
a great app.

I really don’t know why. It is perceived as a very good product
(albeit with a few frustrating bugs) among academics, and I have tried
to Contact the developer, to no avail

Lazy development if you ask me.

This is just one guy, working alone.
He finished producing the current version and immediately after reworked it for the iPad, iPhone and iPod.
How many hours in a day does he have?
I’d imagine by now he’s sick of the sight of it .
He’s produced a magic product at a good price and has a good help community to answer most questions.
Intaglio does not have every possible bell and whistle but that never ending stream of user demands for enhancements is precisely the mark of a good product: people want to use it in ever more interesting ways.
I too would love it if it did a few of the extra things but so what. I do those using something else.

I am grateful to the developer, and I did not hesitate to pay for this
software. I would not hesitate to pay more (and to convince my colleagues to
adopt it) if the development did not stop.
