Target Show/Hide layer fade broken in FW5.2?

Anyone else getting problems with the ‘Fade’ function within a Target Show/Hide Layer action after a 5.2 update? As soon as I revert back to 5.1.2 it works correctly.

I have a Sequence Timer set to fade in and out a series of banners - in 5.2 the change between banners is abrupt - whereas in 5.1.2 everything fades in and out as normal. This is without making any changes to anything else - I simply rebuild the site for each version.

I note that the versiontracker.com notes for Freeway 5.2 contain the following phrase:

“The Target Show Hide Layer Action no longer uses JavaScript libraries if the Fade effect is not used”

Hmmmm…

Hi Ian,

It’s certainly possible, would you send your Freeway file to
support(a)softpress.com so we can get to the bottom of the problem
please.

Many thanks,

Joe

Many thanks for the prompt reply Joe - I’ll get something sent off as soon as I can. If only all software companies could match this level of responsiveness/friendliness/general good vibe!

“Target Show/Hide Layer” not working at all after upgrade - fade or no fade.

Unfortunately, I hit ‘upload’ before noticing. :frowning: Site now broken.

I’ve tried reapplying the “Target Show/Hide Layer” action and the Sequence Timer but to no avail.

Please advise.
Thanks.

It may work after a complete site rebuild:
With the Control key held down, go to the ‘File’ menu and select ‘Publish Everything’. This sometimes solves problems for me.

Thank Ian, but no, that doesn’t fix it.

I noticed that my rollovers are dead too.

Thanks Ian.

Good news / bad news…

I’ve run up a test project and it’s working fine there. My live project is still not functioning.

I’ll zip you my project if that’s ok. (12MB otherwise)

Thanks.

Ian,

I found the problem. Change the order of the items on the page so that
item1 is at the front an item5 is at the back. Sorry for the
inconvenience, I’ll get an amended version of the action (this was
unnecessary previously) out asap.

Marcel,

If you send a link to the live site I can take a look at that for you
to see if you have the same problem.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Marcel,

This all sounds very strange. Have you sent your file to support? If
so i’ll look at it today.

HI Joe,

Yeah, I sent the stripped down site (just the front page) on Friday.

Maybe it’s a project issue because on a new project the Target Layer / Sequence combo works, BUT when using TransitionFX - blind work but the fade doesn’t. (!?)

So maybe that’s a Javascript thing?

As you can tell, I don’t know what I’m talking about! All assistance gratefully received.

Hi Marcel,

Ok, if you set the page’s HTML to More Readable (you can do this in
File>Document Setup or in the Page Inspector palette (the third pane,
page output settings) then that will fix the slideshow problem.

The problem with the Transition FX is that you are trying to make
something appear on the page that is already there. Select the
“Hidden” option in the Initially pulldown to make it work.

Hope this helps,

Joe

The “Hidden” thing… my mistake, I just left it in that state during testing.

I set to “More Readable” which seemed to fix it, albeit a little quirky early on in the loop (the first couple of iterations would cut not fade then they would fade nicely after that).

Now it’s not working at all again. Don’t know what’s changed. I just re-loaded FW but no joy.

Because I’ve only got one ‘feature’ image at the moment I thought I’d use a TransitionFX but that only works with Blind or Slide, not Fade.

Sorry.

Changing the order of items within the Target Show/Hide Layer stack does solve the problem Joe - thanks for that.

For those with a similar problem, the item that is Target #1 needs to be top of the stack, Target #2 immediately under this, the third under this and so on down.

One of my annoyances is having a site page appear bit by bit, what I’ve dubbed “splip-splap-splop” fashion. I thought it would be possible to cover the whole page with a solid color graphic and have that graphic fade out, but my efforts at doing such haven’t been successful. Is there a simple way to do what I would like?

Simple? No. You’re fighting against the fundamental way that web
browsing and HTML construction works! Frankly, I’d give up now and
concentrate on making things as compact and efficient as possible
without making them look ugly.

I think Walter did offer one possible solution using JavaScript
listeners, but that’s not something I personally would use.
