Does anyone know if nested items in this action are broken in FW5 - can’t seem to get them to work without messing up the borders.

HI,
nested items have always been hit or miss with this Action - it’s all to do with the way in which Action can (or can’t) influence the layout of items. In this Action’s case, you need to experiment to get the layout right. The Action does what it can to help, but without being able to directly instruct Freeway to react to the space requirements of the borders, it’s a very tricky thing to get right every time.
