Text/box looks different on Page vs Preview

I have boxes running in a column format that have a HTML text box over the top of them set as absolute. The graphic box is set as a solid fill. When it is all lined up and then I view it on the Preview page, the text has gone past the graphic colored box - now I am left to guess where to get these to line up. What am I doing wrong? I thought this works as WYSIWYG … ?

(I know I can insert text as a graphic, but I need the text as HTML, not graphic).

Turn the text into a layer?

I have tried to make it a layer/absolute but it just doesnt line up right. ~ I cant seem to get a combo of settings that work.

I dont know if this looks as it should - in Page view I can see the text ends about 100px before the end of the box it is inside of. When I switch to Preview mode, the text is almost touching the end of the box. This makes it hard to determine how the text should be formatted to fit. I keep getting this overflow of text, or lots of extra space.

How is the text styled and sized? You may need to change font
settings to get it to behave predictably. Can one see an example
anywhere?

You can see it here for now -

The middle section has text overflow. I am not going to keep the blue background as shown, but it still behaves the same if it were in the bordered boxes similar to what is on the side.

that link shows how much space is in that middle column in Page mode - when it is in Preview it is much closer (I have worked with it since the published page above). This huge difference makes it hard to determine where to line objects. How do I know when it WILL work and when it WONT?

It is Helvetica 12pt … it seems like I get this throughout the site using the HTML boxes for text. What am I not seeing or not knowing here? All of the content is HTML or graphic boxes and they are not layered as absolute - the pages are all set to center.

The trouble is that WYSIWYG is a pretty vague term when it comes to
web browsers and HTML text! Freeway’s text size rendering is slightly
on the small side compared with the modern clutch of browsers; I
believe it is based on slightly older standards. But it is still the
case that HTML text (both type size and line spacing) just will
look different on different browsers across different platforms.

If you want to have text and coloured boxes lining up reliably in
multiple browsers and on Macs and PCs you’ll have to find more
bulletproof ways of arranging the layout elements than just aligning
things to certain points in runs of text. Sorry! That’s just a basic
fact of life with web design, whatever tool you use to make your
pages. :frowning:

There are differences in text when viewing in preview mode. (I forget the reasons - but I’m sure someone will enlighten). Its just something you’ve got to live with.

It’s the preview you’ve got to be more concerned with. And if it does not fit, either make the columns longer of the text shorter. Best web practice is to either work on creating flexible layouts to overcome this, or leave plenty of space after text blocks in case some one wants to make text bigger, or if they view the page with a different font.

Thanks for the info. I seem to be getting fairly good results by changing the layers/absolute on text and graphics. The front page isnt as difficult as the “jobs” page (to appear as a newspaper classified column layout).

Should I have the blue outline (nonlayer) combined with green outline (layer/absolute) on the pages? I am not clear how these react with one another.
