Text for title

Another little observation that I can’t find in the reference please - I’m attempting to tidy up my site by getting all of the alt text / file names / titles etc sorted (regular readers will have come across my other threads - aren’t they lucky) anyway - when I change the ‘Title’ for a page the text has spaces between the words, if the ‘Title’ is, say, for an html text box or graphic FW deletes the spaces, why is this and is it significant ? - I understand (thank you Keith) that file names should be hyphenated (and that there is a ‘character number’ restriction), but not sure about the difference between title and title. Many thanks Roger

When you have an object on the page selected, the Title field in the Inspector translates into the ID property of that object. An ID cannot contains spaces or certain characters, and must be unique on the current page, so Freeway silently fixes it for you after you finish typing.

I think it’s mostly a case of a poorly-labeled control in Freeway. You expect this control to set the Title property, when in fact it does not.

Thanks Walter - oh the id property - yeah … (I really must try and learn a little html) … it’s a problem really, Freeway makes it so easy to do this stuff, really I spent months trying to learn html, css, dreamweaver, I spent a fortune on training courses, books and software and really didn’t ‘get it’ - I guess I don’t have the correct mind set, having said that I want to get to know FW as well as I can and thankfully there are generous folk like you out there to help. Thanks again Roger

If you really do want to add a Title property to some object on the
page (so that if you hover over it with a mouse, the help-text
appears) then you have to “get out and push” (unless it’s a link –
then there’s an actual Title field in the Inspector that relates to
the Title tag).

  1. Click once on the object.
  2. Choose Item > Extended from the main menu.
  3. Click New, then enter ‘title’ (without the quotes) in the Name
field, and whatever you want in the Value field.
  4. Okay out of the stack of dialogs, and publish.
