Text Highlighting using Rollovers

Hi,

Hoping someone can assist me with rollovers - have performed the tutorial with no problems but I was just wondering how I can highlight the graphic text when the user performs a mouseover the graphic item?

Pretty much want to get the same functionality as this FreewayTalk side menu rollover, i.e as you rollover a button, the text changes from blue/black to white.

How can I achieve this?

Thanks.
T.

If you are working with graphic text boxes, then the trick is to make two versions of the button, each looking the way you want them to look. Then make the images sit one above the other, group them, and apply the rollover action to the group. Set the image you want to be normal and highlight using the controls in the actions palette.

You can also get a similar effect by drawing an HTML box, typing your link names and then applying the Text Link Style Action to the box. The Action will enable you to change the link and hover colours to the colours of your choice.
Good luck,

Walt & Vic:

I take it from your replies that there’s no non-action way to make a mouseover effect for individual pieces of text within a graphic item? I’ve got a list of links inside a gif box (which for various reasons can’t be converted into an html object)…am I out of luck rollover-wise?

Thanks,

If you have a large block of graphic text, and you want to cut a
rectangle out of it and make that portion switch from one color
scheme to another in a rollover, then you need to make Freeway
“slice” that block out for you. Draw a graphic box over the top of
the first, larger box, and un-check Combine Graphics on either of the
two. (This option will appear as long as the two elements are either
part of the same group, or are not layered objects.) Now, when you
publish, Freeway will cut up the larger graphic to make a puzzle or
picture frame around the smaller graphic. To make your rollover
effect, simply fill your smaller graphic with the background color
and text that you want to have. Make sure they match perfectly. Then
apply the Rollover effect to the group or element (again, depending
on the status of the Layer checkbox) and set the options as you
desire. You can have as many different elements sliced out of a
larger parent object as you like.

Thanks, Walt. I’ve previously experimented with that technique, but alas my gif box is actually the ‘scroll content’ part of a ‘scrolling layer action’ set-up (with over 200 links)…itself part of a ‘target show/hide layer’. Has to be graphic box to control font. So that gets more complicated than is worth troubling with…but no biggie - I can live with no rollovers. (The scrolling layer effect makes it intuitive enough for the end-user.)

I’ll have a few other vaguely-related questions within the next day or two, though - will start a new thread.
