Text rollover question

Good Evening,

I am working on my daycare site - completely redoing it based on
opinions from this group. And I do feel better about what I have so far.

I only have done some work dt graphic problems … and wanting to throw
illustrator out the window. but yet I went onto photoshop and 5
minutes the problem was solved… LOL OI!! I digress.

I am doing a txt rollover w a hide / show in the nav bar (on bottom).
I have made the “Childcare programs” the rollover so that people can
click specifically on the age room. it works! thank you Dave…
but how do I change the color from blue to red so it matches the other…

also … I would love to hear your opinions so far … compared to the
old site I had…

thank you!!

Julie

Julie… It looks good.

Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you, I’m working like crazy and so I decided to respond here to it. I like where it’s going. It’d be great if you could tile the “leaf” image across the bottom. Then you could center the menu and have it be nice and clean looking.

As far as your menu issue, I’m not sure how you’ve set it up, but perhaps that’s the color for a “current” state. When you click down on the link it’s Red, but since it’s “open” the color is set to be blue. Maybe Dave can help figure that out.

As far as other suggestions, make sure that the color for the links contrasts the color’s around it. You need to let people know that it’s a menu and that it’s a way of navigation. It’s more important in this instance for function rather than form.

Also you may want to think about page-alignment. Right now everything is flush-left and perhaps it’d work better centered in the browser window. That’s easily adjustable in the Inspector palette and if you don’t like it, switch it back.

Other than with some good text treatment you’ll surely have a much more improved website than the previous edition.

That’s cute! and much better.

I use the the Text Link Option item action all the time. You might try it, too. It’s very easy. You just highlight the link text (or the box it’s in), select the Text Link action from the Item/Actions menu (making sure you have the Actions Window open) and apply what colors you want for each stage, and if you want things underlined or not.

To center it you’d have to have the page centered or by other means. Since it doesn’t look like you’re handling it that way then it might not be necessary.

Also, if you select an HTML item you can go to the Inspector, click on the Paintbrush Icon, look for the Links drop-down arrow (near the bottom) and then what I always do is click on ‘More’ because it’s so hard to figure out which shade of underline I may get. Then you can apply styles to the all linked items in that particular HTML item. It saves the time of figuring out if an action is applied to it and if it’s built into the program why not just go ahead and use it?

TIP: If you don’t want an underline for any link state, then add a ‘style’ from the drop-down + sign and then leave it blank (no options selected) for each one. FW will automatically add the css of text-decoration: none to each of the link states for that particular HTML item.

Aha. You’ll need to hack the Action, or hope that Softpress posts a
“60” version of the Text Rollover. The issue, as you’ve discovered, is
that there are only 20 options in the code number picker in the normal
Text Rollover, so you can’t address anything higher.

Hack, sounds ok.

Any guidelines? Can I edit the action in the text editor?

Any, and all hints would be helpful.

thanks again

Sure. I believe Text Rollover is part of the core Actions installed in
Freeway, so what you would need to do is the following:

  1. Locate your copy of the Action. This is hidden inside the Freeway
application bundle itself. If you Control-click on the Freeway
application icon, one of the option is “Show Package contents”. Once
inside that first level, you need to drill down the folders to the
Actions folder: Contents/SharedSupport/Actions. In that folder you
will find another bundle called Standard.fwactionb. Control-click on
it and look inside it. Contents/Resources/Actions/Trigger contains the
Text Rollover Action itself. COPY this file and move it to your desktop.

  2. Open the (copied) Action file using a programmer’s text editor.
(TextMate, BBEdit, Coda, or the free TextWrangler)

  3. Change the version number to be higher than it currently is. (Looks
like 2.3 is the current version, so make yours 2.3.1 or more)

  4. Locate the action-popup control code (it’s structured pretty much
exactly like a picking list in HTML) and add some more values to it.
Copy the last element in the list, and paste it 40 times. Edit all the
numbers so they are sequential and don’t contain any duplicates.

  5. Move this new file into your personal Actions folder at /Users/
    yourname/Library/Application Support/Freeway 5/Actions/General

  6. See how it works.

Because you haven’t modified the version of the Action inside of
Freeway, you don’t have to worry about an update wiping out your work.
Freeway looks in your Actions folder first, then the global system
Actions folder, and finally within its own bundle when constructing
the list of Actions to show you. The first and/or highest version
wins. If this works for you, then consider sharing it with the rest of
the world. Send it to support(a)softpress.com with a note, and they
can post it on ActionsForge in the “60” project.

How many variants do you actually need? - remember that there are 20 standard mouseover options which can be linked to the 10 Target Groups to give you 200 permutations.
