The big obstacle is that I don’t know why a particular temporary style is there. Residue from old formatting? In theory, it should be gone if there’s nothing it applies to–but since it’s there, why?
I’ve gone through a lot of text (and since one page is made up of multiple layers that overlap and aren’t always visible, it’s a PITA to run through), but quite a number of temporary styles remain.
A temporary style can cling to life in a single space, or even in a return character at the end of a line. It’s really hard to find them sometimes. You could try giving that style a lurid background color or something like that.
I am moving over to Freeway from RapidWeaver. Is there a way to simply remove all text formatting in FW? That’s a menu command in RapidWeaver that’s very convenient. You simply highlight the text, choose ‘Clear Formatting’ and presto!, you have plain text.

If you’re using Freeway Pro, select the text and click on [No Style]
in the styles panel of the Styles and Colors palette. If you’re using
Freeway Express, choose Remove Styling from the bottom of the Style
menu (this is also available in Freeway Pro).
One minor wrinkle to this is that if you want to remove a style that
is applied to a whole paragraph, you need to select the whole
paragraph in order for it to be removed.
Hope this helps!
