MacFixIt was a great site back when Ted Landau used to run it. After he left, it went downhill quickly. The reports used to be concise and useful, now they’re just reposts of rambling rants. I stopped reading it shortly after that change and have not been back. I did not realize how bad it had gotten until I read the linked article.
If you want to read rants and crawl thru posts to get useful information, there are forums including Apple’s own that can provide that. I don’t see the point of a web site that just reproduces other people’s experiences and interjects comments of their own.
As opposed to the junk from MacFixIt, here’s an excellent article about how typical users should upgrade to Leopard.

I’m not sure why there is any Japanese encoding. I’m using Gyazmail, if
that’s any help, but the MacFixit stuff was cut-and-pasted into the
email from the GuardianTalk web page (where I’d previously posted it).
Gyaz’s text encoding is set for “Western (Mac Mail)”.

The first message you sent, the one with the paste in it, came
through under this encoding:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=“iso-2022-jp”
The one you just sent came through as:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=“us-ascii”
Clearly this had something to do with GyazMail and the fact that you
pasted into the message body, and looks for all the world like a bug
in that program, but I am still trying to catch all fly balls here.
