time to redesign... some questions.

I’ve let my site sit too long without updating and its time to revamp it. Right now I’m running fw express 4.3.2 .

what I’d like to do is have a landing page with a fade in slideshow and nav buttons underneath. Seems pretty simple and once I get to the actual image galleries, I’ll use rollover/ slave images but my question is what size to make the page.
600 x 900? Since everything is moving to a wide screen format, 900 x 600?

Is there a concensus on height/width dimensions to sites these days?

months ago I ran across talk of an action where the slave images didn’t have to be resized to all be the same format and they wouldn’t distort . Is this only for pro versions?

For the longest time, I have been making sites at 750 x 390. Naturally, most pages grow taller than 390, but I like to keep that initial screen in mind as I design. This space is what’s left over of an 800 x 600 screen when Windows and IE are done pooping on the display. It’s the first impression area, where your message has to happen or people will just move on.

If you are designing for larger screens, then you can scale these numbers up accordingly. The amount of window chrome is not scaled proportionally, so deduct 210 from the height of the screen, and 50 from the width. Common (larger) screen sizes are 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024.

It is wiser to design a layout which will look good (maybe centered) on a larger screen than to design something too large and make people scroll horizontally.

I believe that would be Weaver’s Lightbox Action: http://coastalrugs.com/Actions

Ah, could be. I thought this sounded like the old Slave Image Primer action over
