Title and file names

Hi chaps - me again - I’ve read a lot of stuff about this in this forum and still need some clarification please. I understand that the ‘Title’ is the wording that goes at the top of the browser window and that the ‘file’ is the html page file name. How important are either of them for SEO - I believe the ‘spiders’ look at the ‘Title’ - do they look at the file name as well and how should I word the two for maximum optimisation. many thanks as ever Roger

Absolutely correct.

Absolutely; use words that relate to the core page content both in
the title and in the file name. Don’t go crazy in the file name -
keep it short ‘n’ sweet rather than cramming in a sentence or two.
For one thing, Freeway doesn’t want to let you make ultra-long file
names.

Use a keyword-crammed sentence and/or word groups in the title, and
put a few of the most important words into the file name, separated
with hyphens (dashes). Freeway has a document default of no more than
21 characters in a file name, including the .html suffix. This
conservative limit can be changed (File > Document Setup, Output
pane), but make sure that longer ones work on your web server (try it
and see) and don’t go mad.

For example…

Title: “Tandemista for tandem bicycles, a bicycle built for two - for
touring, racing, or just cycling down to the shops”

Filename: “tandem-bicycle.html” (19 chars)

k (currently considering buying a touring tandem)

Thanks again Keith for that excellent explanation. Enjoy the Tandem

I will, if/when I get it.

I already have one in the garage and I absolutely love taking it for
spins locally, but it is a very old and heavy thing with Sturmey
Archer 3-speed gears.

I want one for proper road touring and commuting, but I’m not sure if
19kg (best budget weight I’ve seen so far) might still be a bit much
when I’m riding on my own. And I can’t afford the jump to four
figures for a true lightweight model!

Anyway, definitely off topic…

k
