long thought and hesitated to write a comment here. This is just because expecting some more people rushing in here. So all I can do is to describe my situation:
Let me first share a link to another thread I recently opened, cause there is already some of my thoughts regarding new users:
It is simply hard to figure out what kind of stuff a new user really needs. Shall we try to “video” the manual? I mean both, me and Softpress? And at what level do we jump in? What are the expectations of a new user? And how do we handle those needs?
My screencasts are pretty advanced - at least up to my personal judge. I’m sharing an advanced technique which is easy to follow, but hard to convert. This is because I want to improve users techniques and set Freeway back to what it was:
A great WYSIWYG editor with immense possibilities. And I’d like to see more than more or less accidental adjustments of templates. Point is, that a proper basic inflow construction (I call it theGrid™) is useless if there isn’t a “story” - called outline behind.
How to video “Don’t start unless you prepared yourself?” or “Web Design doesn’t need Design?”
These are the key questions and this is why people do hard making a tiny clean “My first WebPage ever”.
In combination with the recent thread above, I know, that the key is off any editor - it’s in the structure, planning and outline itself.
My life isn’t reduced to “subscription” - or paid stuff. I think I have the right to protect things which I developed myself and is off “How to use Freeway”. I am protected by Softpress all the years and am thankful for this. But this isn’t the end.
And another one:
Free episodes are mostly ignored! Watching those very often end up in comments like:
“I watched it several times now - but it still doesn’t work”
This is a lie. It’s “yeah I had a look into it but 8 minutes sucks!”
I could write prose, literally. We lost the childishness of web programming, just because of irreversible new techniques.
What I’d like to see is a “discussion under the hood” - kind of hidden platform to share thoughts on a bigger table. Or should I catch the plain for a quick trip to Oxfordshire? I even thought about cause one of our main business is in London - so a rather affordable, funny and interesting 2-3 days trip (don’t tell my wife - it should preferably look like an invitation).
