Trail website but use same url?

I have a website: www.advocate.uk.com

I am redoing this website and want to be able to upload the new site while I am developing it, while keeping my old site live.

I’ve made a new folder on my server (using Fetch) and entered the path to that folder in the directory field in the Upload dialog of Freeway.

I can see, using Fetch, that the files have uploaded to the folder.

But what do I call the index.html file?? Can I rename this file (to trialindex.html), so that the web browser knows which version I want to see?

Do I have to rename all the pages eg. trialcontact.html?

THANKS

No, if you’ve put it in a separate folder, all you have to do is leave
the home page as index.html, but specify the address in the browser
when you look at it, for example, if the folder you made is called
‘test’, then the address will be http://www.advocate.uk.com/test/

That will give you the correct site.

If you are uploading into a ‘trial’ folder then you can call it
index.html as the full url would be - no need to rename any pages:

Then when you are ready to go live, simply upload to the original
folder again.
