I am doing a layer of 5 pictures - one fading into another then the bottom picture remains there.
I am using transition FX on each - since I do not want it rotating etc.
it looks great, but after you see the bottom picture, once the other pix fade out, it seems to disappear and realign the page items.
BTW they are not children - just layered
any suggestions on how to make that picture stay in place would be greatly appreciated. I have also locked it in place

To achieve this, you need to double the bottom image for to remain this as the static one (so no transition or else action). The only caveat with this is, that a slow connection could first show the static one and then the animated slideshow - but that’s the way it would work (and one of the first lesson I had to learn a hundred of years ago - when there where not better opportunities to do.
And another thing:
Pleeeeeaaaaase: never scale an image like you do - it’s drivin’ me crazy if an image is scaled 800% horizontal and 75% vertical. If an image doesn’t fit on its proportions to a container, choose the most exciting segment and crop it. The way you do is more childs-play than webdesign (and you want to become a webdesigner once - isn’t it?)

Absolutley right Thomas. I can not see anyone buying high priced items from this site as it stands.
The client made those pictures on top himself not me. I told him they were out of proportion but he wanted them like that. And at this point I was done aruguing.

Why do you say this? I would be interested in your thoughts

No need to add to what was said in http://www.freewaytalk.net/thread/view/96468. In particular the contributions of Delta Dave, Helveticus, Chris Sowley,Paul and Todd are all pertinent and should have made you think seriously about this site and also what you services you are able to offer clients in general.
Here is my disclaimer and this is all I am going to say.
I did listen to them I read and read. Most of what they suggested I did change, and I even did a Paul Bradford quote to him to get the Left alignment. instead of centered.
I have done several NICE layouts, different features on this site that would enhance the site for this client and he felt that they were too "plain and ordinary and 1990’s. Most others thought they were much better.
I do not like this site. Like stated before, I had done some great layouts for him that others like much better. But there is a point that arguing with the client is not going to get any where. I am not putting my name on this and it is NOT Going into my gallery / portfolio.
The book that Paul and Chris recommended is wonderful. I used that also as a defense for the left alignment (i tried it on a few other style changes - but did not work.
If I could not handle this site I would have told him so. I had some great elegant, simple layouts done for him - but he did not want them he wanted this. I personally hate it.
I do appreciate everyones input on this matter and other questions I come to the table with. I had to get the above off my chest so that you as my peers and gurus know my feelings, that I know it is an awful site and not my normal work. Most of my work reflects high quality and the people / clients nicely.
Thank you.
J
