Unwanted background color

I have several images, each as a layer. Each one is revealed by a button with a mouseover.

The background for each image is set to none, color set to none. They are all stacked in the same position in the window. I’m getting a background color that is showing as a pixel border left and bottom, but only when the layers are stacked on top of each other. If I pull them off to separate positions on the screen, the background tint goes away. I’ve checked and unchecked Combine with Children. No change. Any idea what might be causing this?

For the record I’m using 5.4.2 with SnowLeopard (latest version, whatever the number is).

Can you post a link to an online example?

Here are four images. The first is a screen shot of the layered images in Freeway with the boxes pulled out to show the transparency. After that are three browser shots that speak for themselves.

When the layers are pulled off each other, the problem disappears. Right now “Combine With Children” is unchecked.
