Updates to Mailist and FreewayTalk

I found a way around the problem with replies creating new topics rather than applying to the original subject, and have already cleaned up all that I could find.

If you locate any new instances of broken threads, please let me know directly at waltd (at) wdstudio.com, and reference the original thread number (the bit at the end of the URL) and the new (incorrect) thread number where the reply has taken up residence.

In other news, I have disabled the red “flags” on the subject navigation until I can work out a better way to increment and decrement these numbers on a person-by-person basis. This is not trivial, since the only thing I can use to store which messages you have read is a client-side cookie, and those can only hold a very limited amount of data.

Thanks for your patience through this transition, and I look forward to your participation in improving the forum. With your help, we can make it work well for everyone.

First, I’d just like my posts to appear. Let’s see if this one does.

Good, that one worked. I hope this one does too. Here are two suggestions:

  • Please, please make the width flexible, or user-definable.
  • Please make it possible to see more thread titles at the same time.

Just another possible reason why a message may go missing:

I mistakenly sent a message via Apple Mail using the wrong account
(non-registered) and though the message made it through to the
mailing list it was never delivered to me. If I remember correctly
the previous forum would not even post it if it was sent by email
from the wrong account, there would be some sort of “You are not
allowed…” email message.

If the mail was delivered to the list, then that would be because one
of the admins allowed it to advance. Non-member mail is held for
moderation, and never gets delivered to the list without manual
approval.

All my posts have been made using the Web interface, using “Reply to this thread:” In each case, directly after I had clicked on “Send”, I saw the message stating that my post would appear shortly. Since I can only post if I am logged in and subscribed to the thread, I can’t think of a reason why the post should not appear. I hope this glitch has been sorted out.

You can now choose to view up to 50 threads per page. Look on the My Account page and adjust it to your desire. Anyone with a 30" screen, let me know and I’ll raise the maximum.

Enjoy,

Thanks, that’s much better.
