updating graphics

A newbie to Freeway here.

I want to upload updated graphics (from my weatherstation) into a Freeway site.

Is there a path (i.e. an address within the Freeway code) to which I can upload. Or should I create a separate directory at my URL and reference that from within Freeway?

The site (currently a product of iWeb): http://www.sanpanchoweather.com

Hi Curt,

There are a couple of ways (at least) that you can do this.

If you want to be able to just replace one graphic on your server,
perhaps by using an FTP client, then just make sure the one that you
use in Freeway has a meaningful name in the Inspector palette. Then
just replace it manually whenever you like, in the Resources folder
online.
Of course, whenever you upload from Freeway this will replace the new
graphic with the one Freeway knows about, so you’d have to then
re-replace it afterwards.

Or you could change your graphic item in the Freeway layout from
being a regular graphic to being a ‘URL Item’ instead. This is one of
the ways that you can reference an external image, something that’s
not managed by Freeway. Draw out your box, making sure you make it
the same pixel size as the graphic you will reference, then go to the
third button in the Inspector (the Item Output Settings panel) and
change the ‘Type’ to URL.
Make sure that Content is set to Image, then give the URL of the
image - the web address. If this is on the same web site as your
pages you can use a relative address, one that’s relative to the
location of the page you’re on at the moment. Or you can use an
absolute, full address, including the http:// and everything else.
This is optional if the graphic is on your web site and an absolute
requirement if it is hosted somewhere else.

Your request didn’t really have much by way of detail, so I’m not
sure if this is any use. Is it?

Keith -

Great … that’s all I need to know. Your second suggestion will work best, as the graphic is updated several times an hour.

Thanks for your prompt reply!

Followup to above: size of the URL item box doesn’t seem to matter. The item assumes the size of the graphic by itself!

Cool, thanks for the info.

Try this: change the item from a layered thing to an unlayered one.
Does the graphic still show up at the original size rather than the
size of the box in your page? I’m asking rather than doing since you
have the layout ready to put this to the test…

Sorry!

With the item selected, take a look at the Inspector palette. There’s
a ‘Layer’ checkbox in the upper-left of the first panel. With that
checked, it will be published as ‘div’ code, which means positioned
using CSS code. With that off, it will be published as part of an
invisible page-level table structure. Both ways work to keep your
page design looking as much as possible as you intend, but each works
in very different ways behind the scenes.

Methinks must be a feature of Pro as yours truly is using Express! Will proceed with my efforts and drop a note when I get something published! Gracias!

Ahh yes, sorry again - that is a Pro-only feature. Never mind, that
was just a quick experiment - which I can do myself when I have a
moment. What’s important is that you’ve got it working.
